How to Repair an E36 Clutch

1. Jack the car, and remove the battery. Remove the exhaust, the driveshaft, the shifter and the slave cylinder.
2. Unbolt the transmission from the chassis and the engine. There are many torx screws and bolts that must be unfastened, some of which require an extreme amount of torque to loosen.
3. Remove the pressure plate. Attempt to unbolt it. If the bolts are rounded, use a rotary tool to cut them. The pressure plate is to be replaced, so do not worry if it is destroyed while removing it.
4. Remove the flywheel from the engine using a standard or impact wrench.
5. Install the new flywheel pilot bearing and seal. See 'Resources' for details.
6. Re-install the flywheel to the engine using new bolts.
7. Install the new clutch disc and pressure plate to the flywheel.
8. Align your transmission and your engine using a jack to steady the transmission. Ensure the jack and is properly aligned, showing careful attention to not let non-load-bearing transmission parts hold any weight.
9. Re-install the exhaust, the driveshaft, and the slave cylinder, and bleed the clutch system.
