How to Put Oil in a BMW 2005 X5

Checking the Oil Level
1. Drive the X5 for at least six continuous miles to bring the engine to operating temperature. Park the vehicle in a horizontal position and turn off the engine.
2. Allow the X5 to sit for five minutes.
3. Open the hood. Pull the dipstick out and wipe it with a lint-free cloth or paper towel.
4. Place the dipstick all the way back in the dipstick tube. Remove it again. The oil level should be in between the two marks on the dipstick. This equals approximately 1.1 U.S. quarts. If engine oil level has dropped just above the lower mark on the dipstick, proceed to Section 2. If it has not, do not add oil.
Filling with Oil
5. Remove the oil cap inside the X5 engine compartment.
6. Insert a clean funnel into the oil-reservoir opening and pour the approved BMW synthetic oil inside.
7. Replace the oil cap and allow the oil to drain.
8. Remove the oil dipstick and wipe it with a clean lint-free cloth or paper towel. Re-insert the dipstick into the dipstick tube to check the oil level. Add more oil if needed. Do not fill above the upper mark on the oil dipstick.
