DIY Fuel Pump Replacement

1. Remove the fuel pump fuse and start the car. Let it run until it dies. This will depressurize the fuel system.
2. Jack up the car and place it on the jack stands.
3. Support the fuel tank with the hydraulic jack and undo the harness that holds it in place. Lower the jack to lower the tank.
4. Disconnect the fuel lines and lift the fuel pump assembly from the top of the tank. Depending on the make and model of your car, this pump will either come out with the assembly as a whole, or will be attached by a bracket to the inside of the fuel tank.
5. Change out the fuel filters and reverse the steps to get the vehicle drivable again.
