DIY 2005 Audi A6 3.2 Oil Change

1. Drive onto the ramps, raise the hood and cut off the car's engine. Engage the parking brake and place wheel chocks behind the rear wheels to keep the car from moving.
2. Slide underneath the car and unscrew the skid plate covering the oil drain plug. Set the skid plate aside and place the oil container pan underneath the oil drain plug. The A6's drain plug sit on the side of the oil pan, so situate the container pan to catch the oil that spurts out after you remove the oil drain plug.
3. Remove the oil drain plug and gasket by twisting counterclockwise with the socket wrench. Allow the oil pan to drain completely before wiping the area around the drain and reinstalling the plug and gasket. Do not over-tighten the plug because over-tightening will damage the gasket. Slide the container pan underneath the oil filter.
4. Remove the oil filter and gasket by twisting it counterclockwise with the filter wrench. Place the filter into the container pan. Put a film of oil on the new filter's rubber gasket and reinstall the new filter, twisting by hand until the gasket touches the engine. Give the filter a final half turn with the filter wrench. Do not overtighten the filter.
5. Reinstall the skid plate and you are finished underneath the car.
6. Remove the filler cap from the atop the engine and, using the funnel, pour in the new oil. Consider using a GF-4 oil, jointly developed by auto and oil industry experts to meet new specifications and provide performance upgrades. Replace the filler cap.
7. Remove the wheel chocks and back off the ramps. Idle the engine for one minute, then check the oil level using the dipstick. Add more oil if it does not register full. Dispose of the old oil and filter by taking them to a service station or quick lube.
