Windshield Replacement Instructions for a Mercedes W110

1. Loosen one of the base screws on the rear view mirror and slide it out of the bracket.
2. Remove each windshield wiper by prying them off the base with a flathead screwdriver positioned between the retaining nut and the arm. Set aside the wiper arms.
3. Put tape on all the dashboard vents to prevent small pieces of glass from falling inside.
4. Remove the rubber gasket around the windshield using a razor knife. Push the windshield out of the Mercedes from the inside. Make sure you have a helper catch it from the outside.
5. Clean the gasket, frame, and dash with a wet cloth. Place the new gasket in the sun to make it more flexible.
6. Spread a thin layer of sealant on the bottom part of the gasket channel. Put the gasket around the windshield, taking care to put the side with the slit facing outside of the Mercedes.
7. Wipe a thin layer of petroleum jelly into the gasket's groove. Put the nylon cord into the groove. Start at the bottom center part of the gasket, leaving a foot or two of cord hanging out on each end.
8. Place the windshield into frame from the outside of the Mercedes. Make sure you leave the rope ends hanging inside the vehicle.
9. Pull on one end of the cord slowly to bring the lip of the gasket inside the Mercedes. Have your helper push the gasket onto the outside of the frame while you pull on the ropes from the inside. Allow the sealant to dry for 24 hours before driving.
