How to Adjust an Audi Q5 Headlight

1. Park your Audi Q5 on a level patch of ground with a large wall in front of it. The SUV should be 1 foot away for measurements with 25 feet of room to back up for beam evaluation.
2. Place a long strip of tape from the center of the driver's side headlight lens across the center of the passenger side lens. Then take two small strips of tape and place one vertically over the center point of each lens.
3. Measure down 2 inches from the long horizontal strip at the center point of the passenger's side lens and make an X with the chalk. For the driver's side, measure down 2 inches and 1 inch to the right of the small vertical strip and make an X.
4. Back the Audi Q5 up 25 feet and turn on the headlights. Open the hood and locate the adjustment screws. One will be on the top center of the headlight assembly, the other on the inside center. These control the headlight's vertical and horizontal axis.
5. Move the adjustment screws with a standard screwdriver until the beam from each headlight hits the X.

How to Replace the Fuel Pump on a 450SL

Fuel Pump Replacement
1. Before attempting to remove the old fuel pump, disconnect the negative battery cable using a 12-mm socket. Place a block under the front wheels to prevent rolling. Locate the electric fuel pump under the rear floor panel. Jack up the left rear of the car and support it on a jack stand. This will provide plenty of room for you to remove the fuel pump.
2. Remember that gas is highly flammable, so keep a fire extinguisher nearby. Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the intake and outlet hoses from the fuel pump. Use bolts to plug up the inlet and outlet hoses to prevent gas from leaking.
3. Using an 8-mm socket, disconnect the negative and positive wires from the fuel pump. Unbolt and remove the fuel pump and vibration pads with a 14-mm socket. Compare the old fuel pump to the new one to ensure that you are installing the correct replacement part.
4. Install the new fuel pump. Secure it to the Mercedes-Benz 450SL using the 14-mm socket. Connect the brown negative wire to the negative brown terminal and the positive red/black wire to the red positive terminal on the fuel pump. Using the Phillips screwdriver, connect the inlet and outlet hoses to the fuel pump. If a secure connection cannot be made, you may need to replace the hose clamps.
5. Remove the jack stand and lower the vehicle to the ground. Reconnect the negative battery cable and start the car. Check under the rear floor panel for fuel leaks.

How to Identify the VIN on a BMW

1. Locate the VIN of your vehicle. BMW typically places the VIN number on the left side of the dash, through the windshield, or on the right inner fender of the car.
2. Read the first two characters of the VIN. The first character tells in what country the car was manufactured: 1 and 4 stand for the U.S., 2 for Canada, 3 for Mexico and W for Germany. The second character identifies the manufacturer of the vehicle. In our case, we need to make sure it's B (for BMW).
3. Read characters three through nine. The third character indicates the vehicle type or manufacturing division. Characters four through eight reveal information about the car's body style, model, series and engine type. BMW has produced a wide range of vehicles with a variety of combinations of these characters. The ninth character is the VIN accuracy check digit.
4. Take down the last seven digits of the VIN. Enter them into an online service that allows anyone to check information about his BMW vehicle. You will see a list of specifications about your car, including its production year, type and other information.

How to Shop for a Leather Sofa

1. Learn about grades of leather before you shop. Full-grain aniline leather sofas are the softest, most priciest pieces around. With top-grain leather, the top of the leather is sanded off and processed for a uniform look. If you can afford it, avoid split-grain leathers, which are taken from the lower surfaces of the hide and are notoriously weaker.
2. Understand the ways manufacturers prepare and finish leather. Among top-grain leathers, aniline leather has been soaked in aniline dye, with no other finishes or dyes applied, while semi-aniline has a little coating or pigment to protect against fading and stains. Pigmented leather, made from lesser-grade hides and fully treated with surface color, may be stiffer but offers protection against scratches, fading and stains.
3. Measure your room and all door openings in advance, and decide where you will place the sofa. Take your dimensions along with you to the store. There is no sense in falling in love with a piece, only to have it get stuck in the doorway. You may need to consider a sectional or a few smaller pieces of leather furniture.
4. Keep in mind your room colors when you shop. That chestnut sofa may look great in the store, but clash terribly with your favorite chair. Ask about other colors that may be available but not displayed on the showroom floor. Some retailers also may offer leather swatches for free or a nominal cost.
5. Try out the sofas in the store. Is the sofa wide enough to lay down and take a nap or snuggle with your sweetie? Do the cushions feel firm? If the thought of your family lounging around and eating popcorn on the sofa makes you shudder, you may have to settle for a lesser grade for your own sanity. You want to enjoy your purchase, not constantly worry about your sofa getting ruined.
6. Ask the salesperson about the sofa frame and construction. Look for solid hardwood frames on any leather sofa.

How to Tow With a Mercedes 240D

1. Calculate the trailer's total mass by adding the cargo's weight to the trailer's gross mass (GTW). The trailer's GTW will be located on a data plate riveted to the frame.
2. Determine if it is safe to tow the trailer by comparing the vehicle's towing capacity to the weight of the trailer. The trailer weight should be lower than the vehicle's capabilities.
3. Lower the trailer's coupler onto the hitch ball and lock it in place with the latch. Secure the latch by pushing a hitch pin through the locking hole in the handle.
4. Fasten the trailer's chain to the 240D's hitch by crossing them under the coupler and hooking them on the hitch's chain connections.
5. Connect the trailer's electrical coupler to the vehicle's receiver. Test the lights prior to heading out on the road.
6. Double check all connections and make sure the vehicle and trailer are roadworthy.
