How to Replace the Front Brake Pads on a 2000 Audi A6

1. Park the Audi on level ground. Turn off the engine, and pull the hood release lever. Move to the front of the A6, and lift the hood. Remove the master cylinder cap, located to the left of the engine, near the back of the engine bay. Remove half of the brake fluid from the reservoir with a poultry baster. Place the master cylinder cap, loosely, onto the container.
2. Loosen the lug nuts on the front wheels, with the tire iron. Place a jack under the frame at the front of the vehicle, and lift the front tires off the ground. Place jack stands under the front axles, and lower the Audi onto the stands. Move the jack out of your way.
3. Remove the tires, and lay them rim-side-up, to avoid scratching the wheels on the ground. Remove the retaining clips on the outside of the calipers, with pliers. Remove the two caliper slide bolts on the inner side of each caliper, with a 12-mm socket and ratchet. Lift the calipers from the caliper brackets, and rest them on top of the steering arm, above the brake.
4. Pry the brake pads on the right wheel hub from the caliper bracket with a flat screwdriver. Spray the bracket slots with brake-parts cleaner, and clean the area with a wire brush and cloth towel.
5. Apply a thin layer of anti-squeal brake compound to the back sides of the new brake pads. Slide the pads into the caliper bracket slots.
6. Place the channel-lock pliers on the caliper piston and the back of the caliper. Squeeze the piston into the side of the caliper, to allow ample space for the new brake pads.
7. Place the caliper back onto the caliper bracket, around the new brake pads. Screw in the two caliper bolts, with the socket and ratchet. Replace the wheel onto the wheel bolts, and screw on the lug nuts.
8. Move to the left brake, and repeat Step 3 through Step 7. Place the left wheel onto the wheel bolts, and screw on the lug nuts. Lift the front of the Audi, with the jack, and remove the jack stands. Lower the front tires, to the ground, and tighten the lug nuts with the tire iron. Move back to the engine compartment.
9. Remove the master cylinder cap, and place a funnel into the reservoir. Add brake fluid, as necessary. Replace the master cylinder cap, and close the hood.

How to Change the Transmission Oil in a BMW 528I

1. Start the vehicle and let it run for 10 to 15 minutes so that the various parts in the engine have been thoroughly warmed up. Set the parking brake on the vehicle.
2. Loosen the drain plug on the transmission fluid pan with a wrench and put the draining container underneath the pan. Remove the plug and measure the amount of fluid that drains from the pan. This will be the amount of new fluid that needs to be put in.
3. Remove the transmission fluid pan from the vehicle by loosening the fasteners with a wrench. Remove the gasket and place a small amount of brake cleaner onto a rag. Use it to clean all of the components of the pan.
4. Remove the transmission fluid filter underneath where the fluid pan was, by taking off the attached fasteners with the wrench. Replace the old filter with a new one by re-attaching the fasteners back in their original place.
5. Re-install the fluid pan by refastening it to the vehicle and fill the pan with the same amount of transmission fluid that you removed from the vehicle in the second step. To do so, simply remove the filler plug and pour the fluid in to the necessary level. Replace the filler plug afterward. Be sure to use enhanced Dexron fluid, as mentioned in the BMW Owner's Manual.

How to Replace the Diesel Filter in a Mercedes

1. Lift the hood and locate the transparent pre-filter and main filter assembly. These are on the left side of the engine. The pre-filter is below the fuel injector pump, and the main filter is mounted on the engine block forward of the injector pump. Undo the fuel supply hose connected to the pre-filter with a screwdriver. Pinch off the fuel and plug the hose with a wooden pencil or a golf tee. Loosen the front hose clamp. Remove the pre-filter from the hose and replace it with a new unit. Reconnect the inlet hose and tighten both hose clamps with a screwdriver.
2. Use a 13mm socket wrench with an extension to loosen the two bolts on the bracket holding the main filter assembly to the engine block. This allows better access to the filter can. Remove the hollow center bolt from the top of the filter housing with a socket wrench. Spin the filter can off the filter housing.
3. Replace the lower 'O' ring on the hollow center bolt with the new 'O' ring provided with the filter. Moisten the new filter rubber gasket with diesel. Slip the gasket into the groove on top of the new filter can. Fill the can with clean diesel to speed up the bleeding process described in the next step. Fit the filter can into the upper housing with the arrow on the can pointing toward the injector pump inlet. Insert the hollow center bolt into the top of the filter housing, and tighten it with a socket wrench. Do not damage the gasket by over-tightening the bolt.
4. Tighten the two bracket bolts holding the filter housing to the engine block with the 13mm socket wrench.
5. Bleed the trapped air from the fuel system. Refer to the vehicle user manual. Some models have a priming pump knob on top of the fuel pump that must be depressed several times to bleed the system and fill the pre-filter with diesel. Later models do not have a hand pump, but the engine must be turned over with the starter in 30-second bursts until the motor fires. Start the engine and carefully check the system for fuel leaks.
