How to Remove the Factory Stereo From a Mercedes Benz CLK 430

1. Insert a large flat-head screw driver between the head unit and the dash. Pull back slowly on the screwdriver, prying off the dash in the process. Be cautious and do not rush; the plastic in older models may be brittle.
2. Unscrew the head unit. The existing stereo will be attached with two screws. This is standard in all cars. Use a wrench or screwdriver to unscrew the head unit from its fastenings, as some models have screws and others have bolts. Once the screws are removed, the stereo can be pulled out.
3. Disconnect any wires from the back of the head unit. The antenna wire is a single larger wire; it can just be pulled out of the deck. Unhook any other wires. The stereo is now removed.
4. Install a new stereo by reversing the process.

How to Change the Brake Light Switch on a BMW

1. Climb down into the driver's side foot well area and pull the cotter pin out from the retaining pin that connects the brake pedal to the brake booster assembly. Use a pair of pliers.
2. Slide the brake booster-to-brake pedal retaining pin out of the brake booster mounting bracket. This will disconnect the brake pedal from the brake booster.
3. Lift up on the brake pedal and unplug the electrical connector running to the brake light switch behind the brake pedal.
4. Unbolt the bolts holding the brake light switch to the firewall and pull the switch off the firewall.
5. Install the new switch. Installation is the reverse of removal. When replacing the retaining pin that connects the brake pedal to the brake booster, slide the cotter pin through the small hole in the end of the pin and bend the cotter pin back over the retaining pin. This will secure the retaining pin in place and prevent it from accidentally sliding out of the brake booster mounting bracket.

How to Troubleshoot a 2000 Audi A8

1. Listen for squealing during braking. The metallic scraping or squealing during braking is due to the A8's brake pad wear indicator. This means that your brake pad has reached the end of its service life and needs to be replaced.
2. Check to see if there is vibration while traveling at highway speeds. Your tires may be over or under-inflated. This is a simple problem to correct and requires a trip to the gas station. Most gas stations have an air pump. Set the pump dial to the correct tire pressure for the tires you have on the vehicle and correct the pressure.
3. Check to see if the engine rotates but will not start. This can be a symptom of an empty fuel tank. Hey, it happens to the best of us. If you let the fuel tank run dry trying to make it to a gas station it can be quite embarrassing. But, the fix is easy. Another potential problem could be that one of the battery cables is loose or is not making a good connection. This can happen if corrosion builds up on the terminals of the battery. It happens to nearly all types of batteries and the A8's battery is no exception. You can clean the battery terminal by pouring some baking soda on the terminals and scrubbing them with a wire brush.
4. Listen for clicking noises when you turn left or right. This happens due to a failing CV joint. This is common as the car ages because CV joints do eventually wear out. The protective boot rips, axle grease leaks out and the joint begins to grind. At this point, you'll need to replace the entire CV shaft. This can be done at any good mechanic's shop.

How to Bleed a Cooling System

1. Drain the coolant from the radiator. There is typically a drain plug on the lower corner of the radiator. Removing it will release the vacuum and allow the coolant to drain into the drain pan.
2. Connect the coolant flush kit adapters to the upper heater hose. There are two sizes in the kit, and they splice into the heater hose on the top of the engine. Cut the hose in the center, and attach the T-shaped fitting to each end of the cut hose with a hose clamp. The plastic of this piece can be weak, so do not tighten too much.
3. Tighten the drain plug on the radiator.
4. Attach a garden hose to the adapter using the yellow fitting provided, and turn the water on slowly. Too much pressure will damage the engine, so just a quarter turn or less will give enough pressure to bleed the system. The radiator cap, still unscrewed, will be the primary exit point for the fluid in the coolant system, so align the drain pan accordingly.
5. Allow a few minutes for the water to flush the system completely. The fluid will turn clear when the water reaches the radiator cap. Give a few more minutes to ensure all of the coolant is evacuated.
6. Turn off the water and remove the garden hose from the adapter. The kit comes with a cap for the adapter, making it a permanent fixture on the car for later flushing.
7. Replace the radiator cap, then run the car for five minutes. This will remove the pockets of coolant still trapped in the crevices of the engine. Turn the heater on full, to get out the coolant still in the heater core.
8. Shut off the car, and let it cool. Drain the radiator again, and repeat the process of flushing the system with the garden hose. More contaminants will be visible in the drained water. Repeat the flushing procedure until the water coming out is totally clean.
9. Replace the cap on the adapter, and drain the radiator one last time. Fill the radiator with coolant, not mixed with water, until it is full. Check the level on the reservoir overflow tank, and fill to proper level.
10. Run the car for 10 minutes to mix the coolant with the water inside the engine. Check the overflow tank for several days and fill to the proper level, as there will be pockets of air that will be forced out while the car is driven.

How to Repair an Instrument Cluster in an Audi A6

1. Determine whether the full instrument cluster needs to be replaced. If some of them bulbs aren't working then you simply need to replace the broken bulbs. Open the hood and use the wrench to remove the bolt clamp from the negative terminal. Lift the negative cable from the terminal.
2. Lower the steering wheel to its lowest possible position within the steering column. Use a phillips-head screwdriver to remove the two screws fixed to the bezel. The bezel will either be rubber or plastic. You can find the bezel on the dashboard around the instrument cluster.
3. Remove the three mounting screws which fix the cluster to the dash. Slide the cluster out of the dash. Unhook the electrical connector from the back of the cluster.
4. If the bulbs in the cluster are what needs repairing, simply unscrew the damaged bulbs and replace them with full functioning LED's. If the problem is worse then simply replace the full cluster.
5. To install the cluster and bezel, simply follow the removal steps in reverse. Reattach the negative cable to the negative battery terminal. Turn on the engine to check that the instrument cluster now works correctly.

How to Change the Brakes on a 2000 E320

1. Park the Mercedes on a flat, level surface, such a driveway. Turn off the ignition and then pop the hood. Let the engine chassis cool for about five minutes.
2. Remove the maser cylinder cap under the hood. This cap is black and sits on top of a white, semi-transparent reservoir found to the right of the engine. Remove about half the brake fluid from this reservoir using the turkey baster, then put the cap back on loosely.
3. Loosen the lug nuts on one the front driver's side wheel with the lug nut wrench (also known as a tire iron), but do not remove them completely. This will make them easier to remove.
4. Place the jack under the Mercedes near the rear of the front driver's side tire, where there should be a solid surface. Jack up the car until the wheel is about 2 inches off the ground and place a jack stand underneath it so the vehicle doesn't fall on you while you're working.
5. Remove the lug nuts you previously loosened and put them aside. Take the wheel off and set it aside, as well, revealing the braking mechanism underneath, which consist of the rotors and calipers.
6. Line up the punch with the caliper pin at the top of the caliper and then strike it with the hammer. This should knock out the caliper pin. Repeat this process with the bottom caliper pin and remove the caliper mechanism from the caliper bracket (the mechanism is what holds the pads; the bracket is what holds the caliper to the rotor and cannot be removed).
7. Pinch the clip at the top of the brake pad with the pliers and yank the pad from the caliper. It should slider out fairly easily if it's worn down. Repeat this with the other pad.
8. Apply a layer of brake grease to the metal shim of the new brake pads. This will protect the pads from excess moisture and keep them from wearing down any faster.
9. Slip the new brake pads into the brake pad slots of the caliper in the same direction the previous brake pads were in.
10. Put a C-clamp, which tightens and holds things together, over the caliper piston and the corresponding side of the caliper (the side which it extends). Tighten the clamp to squeeze the piston into the side of the caliper. Loosen and remove the clamp after the piston has fully recessed into the caliper.
11. Slip the caliper back over the caliper bracket and hammer the caliper pins back into their slots. You may need to turn the wheel a bit on the car to gain access to the backside of the caliper.
12. Place the wheel back onto the braking mechanism and tighten the lugnuts. Insert the jack under the car, remove the jack stand, then lower the car back to the ground.
13. Repeat Steps 3 through 12 with the other three wheels and braking mechanisms, then fill the brake fluid reservoir with brake fluid and tighten the cap back over it.
