How to Read Tire Labels

Passenger Tires
1. Start with the tire name on the outer ring. The next letter you come to after the name will be a “P” for passenger tire. The next three numbers are the width of the tire in millimeters.
2. Read the next number past the slash mark. That will be the ratio of height to width. This is the aspect ratio. The next letter will indicate whether the tire is a radial or not. The next pair of numbers will be the rim diameter code followed by a space and then two letters that represent the load index and an alphabetic speed symbol.
3. Skip the next gap and you will find a temperature rating of “A,” “B,” or “C” and a severe weather rating, if it has one. After these letters will be the name of the manufacturer.
4. Read the last three groups of numbers to determine first tread wear. The higher the number, the longer the tread will last. Next comes traction rating. The rating starts at “AA,” then “A,” then “B,” etc. The higher the rating, the shorter your stopping distance in wet weather. The next number is the temperature grade (A, B or C). The closer to A, the more heat resistance found in the tire.
5. Follow the small letters around the edge of the rims. Starting below the tire name, you will find the maximum permissible inflation pressure followed by the USDOT tire identification number, the tire ply, composition and materials used in manufacturing.
Light Truck
6. Start at the outside ring of numbers with the tire name. The next number group begins with the two letters “LT” for light truck. Again, the next 3 numbers are the width of the tire in millimeters.
7. Find the numbers immediately after the slash mark. This is the aspect ratio (height to width) of the tire. If the tire is a radial it will be followed by an “R,” then the two numbers representing the rim diameter.
8. Continue clockwise around the tire. The next letter represents the load index, followed by a load index and speed symbol. After the next gap is the temperature and any severe snow or weather condition rating it may have. Following the manufacturer's name going clockwise are maximum load weight used as a single- or dua-mounted tire, followed by the tire pressure at which those load weights are correct.
9. Start reading the inside of the two small rings below the tire name. You will find the sidewall cord type, ply and another marking for if its a radial, tubeless or tubed tire.
10. Continue reading the next set of letters going clockwise. This is the USDOT tire identification number followed by the tread cord and ply rating.

How to Remove an Oxygen Sensor on a Audi A6 4.2

1. Raise the Audi using the jack and set all four corners onto jack stands so that the vehicle is solid and secure. Make sure there is enough room for you to move underneath the car, and double check the car is secure on the stands prior to crawling underneath it.
2. Locate the sensor on the exhaust. This is just behind the catalytic converter on the exhaust, and it has the only electrical connection on the exhaust. Unplug the wiring harness using your hands, and then remove the sensor using the oxygen sensor wrench.
3. Apply a thin layer of the anti-seize compound to the threads of the replacement oxygen sensor using the applicator provided with the anti-seize compound, and be very careful not to get any on the sensor head itself. Screw the replacement sensor into place.
4. Drop the car off of the jack stands using the jack.

How to Install a Manual Boost Controller on an Audi

1. Mount the boost controller in your interior. Depending on the model of boost controller you've bought, there may or may not be a standard dashboard mount included. A cheap mounting option is Velcro or double-sided tape, both easily obtained at most hardware stores.
2. Using the sockets and open wrenches, remove the plastic air box at the front, driver's side corner of the engine. Unclip the wide hosing that attaches it to the engine's intake manifold and set the air box and hosing aside. Disconnect any wiring harnesses that are attached to sensors in the intake tubing. Removing these components will give you easier access to the turbocharger assembly.
3. Remove the wastegate frequency valve, mounted at the top of the turbo. This valve is plastic, has a U-shape and has two small hoses attached to it that run from the turbo assembly. Pull the hoses out with the valve and set them aside.
4. Mount the boost controller's actuator to the wastegate frequency valve of your Audi. Depending on the model of boost controller that you're working with, the specific mounting process will vary. Fundamentally, you are connecting the actuating mechanism and hosing to the wastegate valve. The boost control device inside the car will electronically dictate the actuation of the wastegate valve and flow of air through the modified hosing.
5. Determine a location for the boost controller's input hose. You can route the input hose into existing hosing that is attached to the turbocharger's inlet.
6. Run the wiring from the actuator through your Audi's firewall, which is the barrier between the interior of the car and the engine. There are multiple small holes in the firewall through which you can snake the wire. Once it is has reached the interior of the car, strip off a bit of insulation from the end and wire it to the boost control device. Insulate this electrical connection with electrical tape.
7. Reinstall the wastegate actuator valve, the air box and intake manifold tubing. Remember to reconnect any sensors that you may have had to disconnect during the installation. Close your hood, then follow the calibration procedure that your boost controller requires before it can be put to use.
