How to Permanently Power a Car#039;s GPS

1. Find the interior fuse panel for your vehicle. The vehicle's manual will provide you with the location if you are having difficulty.
2. Place the GPS in the location on the dashboard you would like to it permanently be. Run the power wire towards the window and along the crevice between the glass and the dashboard in the direction of the fuse panel.
3. Connect the plug from the GPS power wire to the 12 volt female auto accessory socket.
4. Strip 1/4 inch off the insulated cover of the black and red wire and attach these to the wires on 12 volt female auto accessory socket using the butt connectors. The red wire will attach with the positive wire and the black to the negative wire. The butt connectors work by placing the two wires in either end and compressing the connector using a pair of pliers. Assure the connection is tight by gently pulling on the two wires.
5. Strip 1/4 inch off the end of the black wire and attach it to a suitable ground near the fuse panel. An automobile uses the metal frame as the electrical ground, thus most bare metal will work. Find a bolt in the metal and loosen it enough to slide the bare wire under it and tighten it back down.
6. Strip 1/4 inch off the red wire and attach it to the fuse tap using a butt connector.
7. Push the fuse tap into a empty slot in the fuse panel and put the 10 amp fuse in the fuse tap.
8. Organize the wires and attach them under the dash or near the fuse panel using the cable ties.

How to Save Up for a Car

1. Before you can decide how much you should save up for a car, determine which car fits your needs. Buying a car that doesn't do what you need it to do will end up causing you frustration and lost time/money. Do you commute to work every day and need something gas efficient like a Toyota Prius hybrid? If you haul lots of cargo, how about a Ford F150? Can you save more money buying it used? Buying a used car that is just 2-3 years old (or 10-40,000 miles) is very smart because it allows the first owner(s) to take the major depreciation hit during the first few years while the car still likely has 3/4ths of its lifespan left. Whatever you decide on, make sure this is a purchase that you won't regret. Do your research.
2. Now that you've done your homework, you know an estimate of how much the car will cost you total out the door (OTD). How much do you need to save for a down payment? Or maybe you want to save up for all of it?If you're going to finance the car with an auto loan, it is recommended that you pay at least a 20% down payment for no longer than 36 months. While longer loans reduce the monthly payments, they will cost you more in the end.
3. So now you know your savings goal. Take a look at your monthly budget and calculate how much you can spare per month for a car payment. Let's say it is $300 and your savings goal for a down payment is $3000, so that is 10 months. Each month, put this money into a savings account (preferably one with a high APY so you can gain some interest) as if you are already making payments on a car. After your down payment, what will your monthly payments be? It should be no more than $300 a month since that is all you can spare. Make sure you take insurance, gas, and maintenance into account.
4. After your savings goal is reached, you are ready to buy. Shop around banks like Bank of America, Capital One, or Wells Fargo, and credit unions for the best rate on an auto loan. Then shop around dealers for the best price on your car. Never fall for buying a car you can't afford.A few years later, after you have paid off your loan, it may be a good idea to continue putting the $300 in your savings account as though you are still making monthly payments. This will help in case you need it for car repairs or you can even pay off your next car in full, costing you no interest.

Audi 100 Fuel Pump Removal Instructions

1. Open the hood of your Audi 100. Loosen the negative battery terminal nut with your wrench. Lift off the negative battery cable to avoid the possibility of electrical shock. By disconnecting the negative cable from the the battery the accessory electrical components in the Audi cannot receive current from the battery. Open the fuse box. Remove the fuse controlling the fuel pump to prevent any electrical current flowing to the fuel pump while you are working on it.
2. Locate the banjo bolt on the fuel rail behind the master cylinder in the engine bay. Place a rag around this banjo bolt. Loosen the banjo bolt. Let some fuel bubble out of the banjo bolt. Clean up any fuel that leaks out with your rag. This action relieves pressure in the fuel system.
3. Open the trunk. Remove the carpet covering. Remove the spare tire.
4. Remove the four bolts around the access panel with your socket wrench. Pull off the access panel by hand.
5. Disconnect the wiring connector from the fuel pump. Press in the side tabs with your hand to pull the connector off of the socket. Disconnect the fuel return hose, the fuel sending hose, and the vent hose with the hose quick disconnect tool. Insert the head of the tool into the fitting, press inward, and pull the hose off of the fitting.
6. Loosen the locking sleeve around the fuel pump with Audi wrench VAG 3087. Pull off the sleeve.
7. Gently pull the fuel pump out of the tank, but do not jerk it out because it still has lines connected to it. Remove the fuel intake hose from the bottom of the fuel pump. Press in the side tabs of the wiring connector to pull it off of the fuel pump.
8. Pull the fuel pump completely out of the Audi 100.

Instructions for Changing Mercedes C240 Shocks amp; Struts

Remove and Replace Rear Shock Absorbers
1. Place the jack under one side of the car and lift it until the rear wheel is clear of the ground. Place one jack stand under the frame near the jack and carefully lower the car onto it. Pull the jack out from under the side of the car.
2. Place the wheel chocks under the opposite front wheel, in front and behind. Open the trunk.
3. Place the jack under the rear axle member and lift, taking up some of the extension of the rear shock absorber.
4. Pull the interior carpet down in the front corners, exposing the bolts on the tops of the shock absorbers. Remove the nuts on the top of the shock absorbers by turning them counterclockwise, with the 13 mm or 14 mm socket.
5. Verify the correct size of the bolt and nut on the bottom of the shock absorber (17 mm and 19 mm) and remove them, turning the counterclockwise. Lower the rear axle member carefully, until the upper portion of the shock absorber clears the mounting hole. Lift the shock out of the lower bracket.
6. Insert the bottom of the shock into the bottom shock mount. Insert the bolt and start the nut on the bottom bracket. Prior to inserting the upper portion of the shock, you will need to place the bushing and retainer over the shock rod.
7. Lift the rear axle member as you guide the shock rod into the upper mounting hole. Place the bushing and retainer over the shock rod and start the retention nut. Tighten the lower mounting bolts to approximately 40 to 50 foot-pounds of torque.
8. Remove the jack from the back of the car and push it under the side. Lift the car off the jack stand, remove it and lower the car to the ground.
9. Tighten the upper shock nut to 40 to 50 foot-pounds. If present, run the lock nut down and torque it to 40 to 50 foot-pounds also.
10. Repeat this process on the other side. Replace the trunk interior carpet when the job is complete.
Remove and Replace Front MacPherson Struts
11. Place the wheel chocks in front and behind one of the rear wheels. Loosen the front lug nuts with the lug wrench until they are finger tight. Place the jack under the front frame cross-member and lift the front end up until the front wheels clear the ground. Pull the jack out. Open the hood.
12. Place the jack stands under the front cross-member to each side of the jack pad and carefully lower the car onto them. Remove the lug nuts and front wheels and set the wheels aside.
13. Verify the size of the three or four bolts on the strut cap and remove them by turning them counterclockwise. Do this on both driver and passenger sides.
14. Verify the proper size wrench and socket for the two bottom strut bolts and remove them by turning them counterclockwise.
15. Grasp the strut firmly and pull down and push inward to release it from the shock tower and bottom clamp. Set the strut aside.
16. Repeat the preceding process on the other side.
17. Place the strut spring clamp on the uppermost and lowermost spring coils. Using the correct size wrench, collapse the spring as much as you can.
18. Verify the size of the upper strut nut and remove it by turning it counterclockwise. You may need to use the 13 mm wrench to hold the strut rod from turning
19. Lift the strut cap off the strut coil assembly and pull the strut out of the coil.
20. Insert the new strut through the coil and place the strut cap over the top. Secure the cap to the strut using the provided upper strut nut. Again, you may need to use the 13 mm wrench to provide enough torque to properly secure the strut cap to the strut.
21. Place the strut under the fender and lift it into place, lining up the holes on the strut tower with the studs on the strut cap. Place the three or four nuts that hold the strut cap to the tower on the strut cap studs and run them down clockwise to finger tight. You will need to hold the strut in place until the nuts are installed.
22. Twist the strut to line it up with the lower mount on the steering knuckle and insert the two bolts into their holes. If one of the large washers has the hole off-center, be sure to replace it exactly as it came out, as this adjusts the alignment camber angle.
23. Torque the bottom strut nut to 50 to 60 foot-pounds of torque. Torque the strut tower nuts to 40 foot-pounds. Replace the wheel. Install the lug nuts finger tight.
24. Repeat the preceding process on the other side. Place the jack under the front cross-member and lift the car off the jack stands. Remove the jack stands and lower the vehicle until the wheels make contact with the ground. Torque the lug nuts to 75 to 80 foot-pounds.

How to Install a K and N Air Intake on BMW 525I

1. Carefully pry up and remove the alternator air supply tube and place it aside. Loosen the clamp securing the air intake tub to the MAF sensor and separate the tube from the sensor. Disconnect the sensor. Remove both front and rear mounting nuts for the air box assembly. Lift the air box and MAF sensor out of the engine bay as an assembly. Remove the clamp at the throttle body and remove the air intake tube from the engine bay.
2. Remove the two screws securing the MAF sensor to the air box and separate the sensor from the box. Remove the bolt securing the heater unit from the air box and place the heater unit aside. Remove the large o-ring from the air filter box and place it over the filter side of the MAF sensor.
3. Install the cone air filter over the MAF sensor inlet and tighten the clamp until the filter can only spin, followed by an additional 360 turn of the screw. Fit the small twisted bracket to the top of the rear air box mounting bracket and install a bolt, lock washer and nut. Place the longer bracket between the two air box mountings and install a bolt, lock washer and nut.
4. Install the stock intake tube to the MAF sensor and set the clamp into position. Position the thin end of the twisted bracket between the clamp and air intake tube. Tighten the clamp. Place the brass heater element into the hole in the back of the air filter and use an included zip strip secure the element to the twisted bracket. Connect the intake tube to the throttle body and tighten the clamp.
5. Lift the front of the vehicle and support it with jack stands under the sub-frame rails. Here you have to cut out a portion of the air grille. Measure and mark off at the half point of the right most portion of the grille. Cut out the bottom two horizontal rails with a knife or small saw. This should provide your with a one horizontal flat towards the top of the grille. Cut a small hole at the end of the cold air hose and zip strip the cold air hose to the cut out portion of the grille. Direct the cold air hose so that the air will be pushed towards the bottom side rear of the filter. Zip strip the cold air tube to the lower radiator hose.
6. Lift the vehicle off the jack stands and lower the vehicle to the ground. For a full customizable look, get a piece of chrome tubing about the same diameter of the stock intake tube and have it cut and bent at an exhaust shop to the same shape and length of the stock hose. Get two rubber couplers and 4 new clamps to secure the solid pipe to the MAF sensor and throttle body.
