How to Add an iPod to a BMW 745i

1. Acquire a cassette tape adapter (if the vehicle has a tape player in it, as many older BMW models do). You can purchase this handy little device for around $20 at most electronics, audio or department stores. Simply insert the plug into the headphone jack and put the tape into the tape player to transport the sound from the iPod through the tape deck and subsequently out of the BMW's speakers.
2. Purchase an FM transmitter. This small broadcaster plugs into the iPod and transmits the audio within a small radius, allowing the antenna on the vehicle to receive it and play it on an 'empty' FM radio station. (An empty station has either complete, or nearly complete, static; this means no radio stations are broadcasting locally on that particular frequency, making it open for FM transmitters to use.)
3. Have an auxiliary cable wired into the BMW's stereo by a car audio specialist. This small cable will run from the internal guts of the stereo into the cabin of the vehicle, allowing you to insert it into the headphone jack of the iPod and play it through the stereo's auxiliary input.
4. Bring the vehicle to a car audio specialist and ask to have an iPod integration dock installed. This option will prove the most, but some car stereos allow you to plug a small adapter into the data dock on the iPod and use a digital display on the stereo to cycle through the iPod's menu and operate it in almost the same way as if you were holding the iPod in your hand. (Note that this option may require a full replacement of the BMW's stereo.)

How to Install a BMW E46 Subwoofer

1. Open the trunk and place your subwoofer box in position. Make sure there is adequate clearance on all sides and that the box fits when the trunk lid is closed. If you have chosen to put the box where the CD changer goes, then you may need to build a custom box, which can be easily done using fiber board or similar material.
2. Remove the subwoofer box from the trunk. Attach the speaker wire to the inside of the terminal cap on the back of the box and run it to the subwoofer. Place the subwoofer in position in the subwoofer box and secure with the screws.
3. Attach Velcro to the bottom of the subwoofer box, using wood glue. Attach corresponding strips of Velcro to the carpet in the trunk, using fabric glue.
4. Run speaker wire from the amplifier to the back of the subwoofer. Depending on where you have chosen to mount your amplifier, your wiring route may differ. You can run the wire under the edge of the carpet and trim by teasing up the edges with the screwdriver.
5. Attach the speaker wire to the terminal caps on the rear of the subwoofer box and place the subwoofer box on the strips of Velcro you installed in the trunk.

How to Replace a CD Player in a BMW M3

1. Lift the hood and disconnect the grounding cable from the battery. Look for the black cable connecting the negative battery terminal to the frame of the BMW. Loosen the bolt that secures the cable's clamp to the battery terminal with an adjustable wrench. Lift the cable from the battery post and set it away from the battery terminals altogether.
2. Pry the center dash panel from the dashboard with a trim panel removal tool. Start at the left corner and work your way around the perimeter of the panel. Remove the smaller panel surrounding the stereo and climate control knobs with the trim panel tool.
3. Remove the two screws on either side of the factory stereo with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Slide the stock deck from the M3's stereo mounting dock.
4. Disconnect the stereo wiring connectors from the back of the stock stereo. Lift the locking mechanism on the plastic wire binders with a flat screwdriver. The mechanism allows you to pull the connectors from the outlets on the back of the stereo. Unplug the antenna cable from the outlet on the lower left corner of the factory unit.
5. Slide the installation cage into the stereo mounting dock. Feed the stereo wiring and antenna cable through the sleeve (or cage) while pushing the metal collar into the dock. Fold the metal tabs at the entry of the cage outward with a flat screwdriver to secure the sleeve inside the dock.
6. Plug the stereo wiring connectors into the lead connectors of the wiring harness adapter leads. Plug the leads opposite the stereo wiring into the outlets on the rear panel of the new CD player. Plug the antenna cable into the FM antenna outlet on the back side of the new CD player.
7. Slide the CD player into the installation cage until it snaps into place. Replace the trim panel over the stereo dock and climate controls. Press against the panel to snap it back into place. Place the larger trim panel over the center section of the dashboard. Press firmly around the perimeter of the panel to snap it back against the dash. Return to the battery.
8. Place the grounding cable clamp back around the negative battery terminal. Tighten the cable to the clamp with the wrench. Close the BMW's hood.

2. Unscrew the four screws holding the speaker into place. Grasp the speaker by the edge and pull it out.
3. Disconnect the wiring connected to the speaker. Connect the wiring to the new speaker and mount the speaker into the opening with the screws. Snap the panel back in place over the speaker.

Audi Q7 Hitch Installation

1. Place the hitch against the bottom of the frame and line it up so the receiver protrudes from the back bumper. Use a second person to hold up the other side of the hitch.
2. Mark the 4 mounting holes on each side of the hitch onto the frame of the Audi using a black marker. Lower the hitch receiver and place it off to the side.
3. Drill holes using your black marks as locators. The frame on the Audi is not boxed. Therefore, you only need to go through the first layer of steel on the frame.
4. Place the hitch receiver against the frame and line up the holes. Push a bolt up through the hitch and into the frame on both sides of the hitch. Again, use a second person to help you with this. Thread a bolt onto each of the 2 bolts and tighten them using the socket and wrench set.
5. Push the remaining 6 bolts through the hitch and into the frame and secure them using the nuts, socket set and wrench set.

How to Remove a BMW Power Steering Hose

1. Raise the front of the vehicle with the floor jack and lower it onto a pair of jack stands. Refer to your owner’s manual for the location of the jacking points as they vary depending on the model of BMW.
2. Remove the splash guard that protects the bottom of the motor if your model of BMW is equipped with one. The splash guard is held on with a series of bolts or screws that run around its perimeter. Use the appropriately sized socket and a ratchet to remove the splash guard. Put the bolts somewhere where they won’t be misplaced and set the splash guard aside.
3. Locate the power steering pump and the hydraulic hoses that are routed to it. Most models will have two lines going to the pump. Determine which one is leaking by cleaning the hoses and then seeing which one is producing hydraulic fluid. Often the hoses will leak where they are bolted on because of a worn crush washer.
4. Remove the hose by removing the banjo bolts that holds the hose in place on either end. Use a socket or an open-ended wrench. Wipe up any spilled power steering fluid with a rag. Wipe the bolts down so that they are clean and then bolt on the new pump, being sure to install a new copper crush washer to seal the bolt.
5. Top up the power steering reservoir with power steering fluid to the full mark. Turn the car on and turn the steering from side to side as far as it will go several times until the power steering pump stops whining. This should purge the system of air bubbles. Check the reservoir and top up with fluid if necessary.
