How to Tow a Mercedes with the Wheels Down


1. Remove the towing eye from the tool kit located in the trunk floor of the vehicle.
2. Remove tow eye covers from the front bumper of the vehicle. Press the tow eye covers inward in the direction of the arrow on the cover and take the covers off the openings. There are two covers that you remove.
3. Place the tow eyes in the slots under the covers you removed in step 3 and screw clockwise to tighten.
4. Run the towing cables through the tow eyes to attach the vehicle to the tow truck.
5. Insert the key into the ignition key cylinder and turn to position '2.'
6. Depress the brake pedal and hold it down.
7. Shift the transmission lever into the neutral 'N' position.
8. Release the brake pedal.

How to Remove the Clock From a BMW


1. Remove the center console piece. The middle console piece on most BMWs has adjoining wood panel side pieces that will have to be removed before you can remove the center console piece, so open the glove compartment. The inner cover is held up by three screws and one rivet; remove these and then lower the inner cover to expose access to the back of the wood panel.

Remove the four nylon screws holding the lower beige panel piece, followed by the four nylon screws holding the wood panel piece. Gently pull the panels off, being careful to not bend the panels.

Locate and remove the two screws beneath the cup holder and OBD port. These will be hard to see so you may just have to feel for them. One will be a torx and one will be a Phillips. Make a note as to which one is which so you can remember when putting it back together. There will also be two retaining clips, so when pulling the area loose, be sure not to knock them behind the dash.
4. Remove the final four screws holding the metal frame. Two will be on the left side, one will be on the lower right either underneath or in the cup holder, and the last one is behind the OBD port.
5. Pull the frame out about 20 degrees from the right side. You should now be able to access the wires to the controls for the radio, clock, and air conditioning.
6. Reach your arm through this access area and locate the clips holding the clock.
7. Press the two clips together and the clock will pop out.
8. Disconnect the wire connector and remove the clock piece. Replace with the new clock and reconnect the wires.
9. Reinsert the clip tabs into place and push the frame back into place.
10. Tighten all screws back into place in the reverse order and realign the panels into place.

How to Replace the Transmission Fluid in the 1997 Mercedes 420 E


1. Lift the hood of your car and prop it up with the lever. Pull out the transmission dipstick in the back of the engine.
2. Wipe all transmission fluid off the dipstick and replace it into the fluid cylinder. Take it out again and note where the fluid levels are. There is a line on the bottom that says 'LOW' and another on top that says 'FULL,' with space in the middle. The fluid level should be somewhere in the middle.
3. Add automatic transmission fluid if it fell below the 'LOW' line. Pour some transmission fluid into the fluid cylinder and repeat Step 2. When fluid levels are adequate, your transmission fluids have been properly replaced.

How to Change the Oil in 1996 Mercedes C280


1. Open the hood of your Mercedes C280, and unscrew the oil cap.
2. Locate the plastic panel beneath the engine. This panel needs to be removed to gain access to the oil pan drain nut, and will require an 8 mm socket on a ratchet. There will be four bolts. Unscrew them in a counterclockwise direction and remove the plastic cover.
3. Place your oil pan beneath the oil pan drain nut.
4. Remove the drain nut with your 13 mm socket and ratchet, also turning in a counterclockwise direction. Allow the used oil to drain into the oil pan.
5. Locate the oil filter which will be on the driver's side near the rear of the engine.
6. Attach your socket oil filter wrench and carefully unscrew the cartridge. The cartridge will drop once unscrewed, and along with it will come the filter medium along with o-rings and a gasket. These can be discarded, but the filtering medium can be recycled.
7. Place the new o-rings in place onto the cartridge along with the gasket. Take a new filter medium from your kit and place it inside the cartridge, then carefully screw it back into place in a clockwise direction. Tighten it gently with the socket oil filter wrench.
8. Replace the drain plug and also the plastic covering panel. Pull the drain pan out from beneath the car and recycle the used oil at any automotive service station or hardware store.
9. Pour 7 quarts of new motor oil into the oil filler on the top of the engine, screw on the oil filler cap and close the hood.

How to Change Oil in a Crossfire


1. Park the Crossfire on a level surface and set the parking brake.
2. Position the jack under the center of the frame and lift the vehicle. Place jack stands under both axles.
3. Remove the four air pillow mounting bolts with a socket wrench. Remove the air pillow.
4. Place a drip pan under the oil drain plug. Remove the oil drain plug with a socket wrench. Allow all of the oil to drain out.
5. Open the hood and support it with the hood prop. Remove the oil filter cartridge with a strap wrench. Remove the O-rings.
6. Rub a thin layer of motor oil on the new O-rings and put them in place. Put a new oil filter cartridge in position and tighten it by hand to ensure it seats smoothly. Finish tightening it with a strap wrench.
7. Install the oil drain plug and tighten it with a socket wrench.
8. Open the oil fill cap. Add about 8 quarts of oil. Check the dip stick. Add oil as necessary until the dip stick reads that the proper oil level has been reached.

How Do I Remove an Audi Door Handle?


1. Remove the screws that hold the inside trim in your Audi. Remove the screws that secure the door panel. Screws are located by the door handle, under the armrest, under the door and on the side of the door.
2. Pull back gently on the door panel. The several small clips that hold the panel to the frame can break if you are too forceful. Pull back the panel while taking care not to snap the tabs.
3. Lift the panel up to get it over the window ledge, then pull off until you can see all the connections that are holding the panel onto the car. Disconnect the wires from the door handle to the door, the mechanical controls and any other wiring you may see. Pull the panel off.
4. Pull back the weather seal that prevents moisture from getting in to the inside of the door. Be careful; if the weather seal tears, you will have to replace it.
5. Unscrew the bolts that secure the door handle to the inside of the car. Once all bolts are removed, the door handle can be easily pulled off the outside of the door.

How to Program the Bluetooth in a 2003 BMW


1. Start your BMW and activate the Bluetooth on your cell phone. When the car is turned on, it is in 'pairing mode' and will look for a cell phone.
2. Select 'Bluetooth' on your phone's Bluetooth connections menu. This option may be called 'Connections' and varies with the type of phone you own. Select the option that lets your phone search for Bluetooth devices. Consult your phone's owner's manual for specific instructions on how to complete this step.
3. Wait for your phone to locate your BMW. When it finds your BMW, you will see 'BMW' followed by five numbers, which are the last five digits of your BMW's VIN number. Select the confirmation option when your phone asks you if you want it to sync with the vehicle.
4. Enter the 'Passkey' number when your phone prompts you. You can find the passkey inside the booklet that includes your owner's manual. The passkey is four digits and will be listed after 'PK,' the abbreviation for passkey. You have about 20 seconds to enter the passkey on your phone before the sync process ends. If the sync is successful, you will see 'Loading Phonebook' flashing on your radio's display screen. Your phonebook's contacts will load to your radio where you can access them. It could take a few minutes for your contacts to transfer.

How to Replace the Taillight Lens on a BMW


1. Open your trunk. Locate the trunk lamp lens located behind your right taillight. Push the plastic tab on the backside of the trunk lamp lens toward the lamp lens to pop out the bulb socket housing.
2. Pull out the plastic wire harness located on the back of the bulb socket housing to disconnect the electrical wires.
3. Remove the button fastener located below the bulb socket assembly on the trunk lining of your BMW trunk with your slotted screwdriver to loosen the carpet lining.
4. Pull the carpet lining back to expose the three 10-mm nuts that hold the taillight lens in place. Remove the nuts with your 10-mm socket wrench, and place the nuts aside for re-installation.
5. Pull the old lens from the outside of the trunk by hand to remove it from the car.
6. Push the new taillight lens into place from the outside of your trunk. Bolt the three 10-mm nuts set aside in Step 4 back into the taillight fixture with your 10-mm socket wrench to hold your lens in place.
7. Press the carpet back into place so that it covers the exposed nuts and fixture. Screw the button fastener into the carpet lining using your slotted screwdriver.
8. Push the plastic wire harness back into the bulb socket to reconnect the electrical wiring. Push the bulb socket housing back into place behind the trunk lamp lens so that it clips in.

How to Install a Radio in a 97 Mercedes E300


1. Disconnect the negative terminal of the car battery using an adjustable wrench.
2. Insert the Mercedes removal keys in the slots on the left- and right-hand sides of the radio. Push the keys in the slots until they click into place. Pull on the keys and drag the radio unit out of the dashboard housing. Disconnect the wire harness from the rear of the radio by pushing the tab on the edge and pulling the connection apart. Pull out the radio antenna cable. Place the old stereo to one side.
3. Connect the new stereo. Attach the wire harness from the new stereo to the wire harness adapter. Push the connections together until they click into place. Repeat this process attaching the other end of the wire harness adapter to the wire harness from the Mercedes E300. Plug the radio antenna cable into the radio antenna port on the rear of the new stereo.
4. Slide the connected radio into the dashboard housing, taking care not to trap any of the wires. Push the radio into the housing as far as it will go. Reconnect the negative terminal to the car battery. Turn on the new stereo to test the installation.

How to Tow a 1994 BMW 540


Using a Flatbed Tow Truck
1. Position the flatbed of the truck so that its rear is facing the front of the 540i.
2. Lower the flatbed of the truck, angling it down so that you will be able to pull the 540i up.
3. Screw the 540i's tow hook into the front bumper and attach the winch of the flatbed truck to the tow hook.
4. Place the car's transmission into neutral and ensure that the parking brake is disengaged.
5. Tighten the winch on the flatbed to mount the car. Attach the rear towing cable to the rear control arms of the 540i to secure it to the bed, then raise the flatbed back up so that it is horizontal.
Using a Car Carrier
6. Unroll the safety straps embedded into the side of the car carrier and pull out the ramps that are embedded into the rear of the trailer so that they are resting on the ground.
7. Drive the vehicle up on to the car carrier then turn it off, place the transmission into 'Park' or one of the gears if it's a manual transmission, and engage the parking brake.
8. Thread the side safety strap through your front wheels and ratchet the straps down to tighten them.
9. Thread the safety chains at the rear of the car through your 540i's rear subframe. Give the chains some slack to allow for movement caused by bumps in the road as the car is being transported.
