How to Replace a Water Pump in an Audi A4 2.8

1. Unfasten the negative battery cable from the battery post on your Audi A4 2.8 litre engine with an open end wrench. Move the cable out of the way so that it does not touch any other metal parts.
2. Take the cap off of the radiator and also off the coolant overflow tank. Place a drain pan underneath the drain plug at the bottom of your radiator.
3. Open the drain plug with an open end wrench and allow the coolant to drain out completely. Once it has finished, close the drain plug.
4. Locate the radiator hose that runs from the radiator to the top of the water pump and remove the hose from the water pump using a screwdriver to unfasten the screw clamp.
5. Unhook the electrical fan wire connector from the plug in connectors that go to the battery and use an open end wrench to disconnect the fan blade assembly from the front of the water pump. Use a socket wrench to unfasten the fan blade pulley from the engine block and remove the fan belt.
6. Disconnect the bolts that are securing the water pump to the engine block and use a screwdriver to pry the water pump away from the engine.
7. Use a putty knife to remove any remaining gasket material or debris from the face of the engine block where the water pump was mounted.
8. Spread a thin layer of gasket seal over the face of the new Audi A4 2.8 water pump and then lay the cardboard gasket material that came with your new pump over the face of the water pump.
9. Position your water pump over the engine block and attach it with the bolts that you removed from the old pump.
10. Place the fan belt around the pulley and reattach it to the engine block by pulling back on the pulley to tighten the belt while you secure the pulley with a bolt to the pulley bracket. Reattach the fan blade assembly to the front of the water pump with bolts.
11. Attach the radiator hose to the top of the new water pump with a screw clamp and plug the electrical connector for the radiator fan back into the electrical wiring plug.
12. Fill the coolant overflow tank about 1/2 full of coolant and place the cap back on the tank. Refill the radiator tank with coolant and water until it reaches the full level and then place the cap on the radiator tank. Reattach the negative battery cable back on the battery post with an open end wrench.
13. Remove the drain pan from underneath the radiator and set it aside. Start the engine to allow the coolant to cycle through the new water pump. Verify that there are no leaks around the new pump. When you are satisfied with the work, turn the engine off and dispose of the drained coolant at your local recycling center or automotive supply center.

How to Replace an Automobile Blower Motor

1. Disconnect the cable that goes to the negative terminal on the battery. Locate the blower motor. This will almost always be in the dashboard or the firewall area of the car, but the location depends on the model of the car. On some cars, like the Audi A4 for instance, the blower is located behind the glove box, so the glove box must be removed. On other models, the BMW E46 3 Series for example, the blower motor is located just under the windshield and is accessed from the rearward part of the engine bay.
2. Remove any parts that restrict access to the blower. This may be the center console, the glove box or the housing that contains the cabin air filter, often located in the engine bay. Consult a workshop manual for your specific car for detailed instructions on what needs to be removed to access the blower motor.
3. Remove the screws or bolts that hold the blower motor in place. Use a socket and ratchet for bolts or a screwdriver for screws. Disconnect the electrical connections from the blower motor. These are frequently extremely difficult to access, so patience is the key. Once the connections for the blower are disconnected and the blower is unbolted, remove it from the car.
4. Install the new blower in the opposite order that the old blower was removed. Connect the wiring harness or wires to the new blower. Reinstall any parts that were removed to access the blower motor. Turn the car on to make sure that the new blower motor is working.

How to Replace the Fuel Level Sending Unit in an Audi

1. Make sure the fuel tank is below half full. If it is not, drive the vehicle around until it is. Relieve pressure from the fuel lines before accessing the fuel level sending unit. Remove the fuel filler cap and the fuel pump relay from the engine bay fuse box. Crank the engine, and let the fuel lines empty; the engine will sputter and shut off. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Open the trunk, and remove the carpet and the trunk liner. Locate the fuel pump access cover plate close to the rear seat. Remove the plate with the Phillips screwdriver.
3. Disconnect the wiring harness and fuel lines. Label the lines for input and output to properly reconnect them to the new fuel level sending unit.
4. Use Audi tool #3307 if the vehicle is an Audi A4. The Audi A4 fuel-level sending unit is attached to the fuel pump. Use the tool to remove the fuel pump to access the sending unit. Remove the fuel-level sending unit. For all other Audi vehicles, use Audi tool #3217 to remove the fuel-level sending unit plastic locking ring.
5. Install the new sending unit, and secure with the appropriate Audi tool. Replace the fuel pump for A4 vehicles. Reattach the fuel lines for input and output. Connect the wiring harness and replace the fuel pump access cover.
6. Replace the trunk liner trim and the carpet. Attach the fuel filler cap, the fuel pump relay and the negative battery terminal. Start the engine, and check underneath for fuel leaks.

How to Install a Boost Gauge on an Audi

1. Choose which vent you are going to install the gauge in and remove it by pulling it out. Inspect the vent to see if the gauge will fit into it. You may have to trim the rear flap of the vent to allow the gauge to sit in it.
2. Hold the boost gauge against the vent and draw a circle with a pen or white pencil around it to mark where the cut is going to go.
3. Use a dremel with a small cutting wheel and carefully trim the hole that you have traced. Test fit the gauge to make sure it fits in the trimmed hole very snugly. Smooth any rough edges with sandpaper.
4. Drill a small hole in the ducting that leads to the vent to allow the pressure tube for the gauge to go through. Run the tube through it. This should be included with the gauge.
5. Remove the trim located below the steering wheel and remove it. There are probably three or four 8-mm nuts.
6. Open the hood. At the rear of the engine on the left side of the brake fluid reservoir are two rubber seals. Remove them both, exposing two holes.
7. From under the steering column, route the gauge tube through the holes. Make small holes in the rubber seals for the tube. Run the tube through the seals and then reinstall the seals.
8. Connect the gauge to the intake manifold by cutting the hose that goes to the fuel pressure regulator and installing a 'T' adapter for the gauge hose.
9. Hook up the power wire for the gauge to an existing wiring harness that goes to the factory gauges. Ground the black wire that is on the gauge to a suitable ground in the dash. Reinstall the vent and gauge and test it to make sure it works.

How to Install a Wastegate on a Turbo

1. Drive the car somewhere out of the way, or tow it if the wastegate is broken. Driving a turbocharged car with a damaged wastegate can seriously damage the turbocharger and the engine. Place the car in park and turn off the car. Pull the hood release latch and then prop the hood up with the prop stick. Disconnect the black wire from the car battery to ensure that the car's circuits are dead.
2. Locate the wastegate valve on the turbine side of the turbocharger. The wastegate is a small metal valve bolted onto the turbocharger's exhaust feeder pipes. Disconnect the control wire from the wastegate and place it to the side. Use a wrench to unbolt the two bolts that secure the old wastegate to the turbocharger. Pull the wastegate out, being careful not to scrape the sides of the hole.
3. Slide the new wastegate into the hole on the exhaust feeder pipe. Slide in the bolts and screw them down by hand. Once both bolts are down, wrench them down flush with a wrench. Plug in the control wire into the side of the wastegate. Make sure there is no packing material stuck in the valve. Reconnect the black wire on the car battery and then shut the hood. Turn on the car and take it for a test drive.
