How to Replace Weatherstripping on a BMW

1. Pry the old weather stripping out of its place with a slotted screwdriver. Wrap the tip of the screwdriver with the shop rag if you are concerned about scratching the paint on your car's exterior panels as you remove the weather stripping. Start from one end, and slowly work your way around the perimeter of the window.
2. Pull the old weather stripping out of place once it has been loosened, and run a shop rag between the window and body panels to clean out any remnants of dirt.
3. Align the new piece of weather stripping with your window, and gently tap it into place using your rubber mallet. Start at one corner, and work your way around the perimeter of the window, just as you did when removing the old weather stripping.

How to Install an A4 Stereo

1. Pull the release handle under the dashboard on the driver's side of the Audi. Move to the front of the car and lift the hood. Turn the bolt on the negative battery cable's clamp two full rotations with the 10mm wrench. Lift the cable from the battery and move it to the side. Return to the A4's cabin.
2. Insert the four stereo removal keys into the slots near the corners of the stereo deck. The keys are available through Audi or Volkswagen dealers, as well as through aftermarket car audio outlets.
3. Place two fingers from each hand inside the rings at the ends of the keys. Pull out on the tools to engage the release mechanisms on the sides of the stock radio while pulling the unit from the dashboard.
4. Pull the stereo wiring connectors by the plastic wire binders until they disconnect from the outlets on the back of the Audi's head unit. Remove the antenna cable lead from the outlet on the factory radio's rear panel.
5. Slide the installation cage into the A4's stereo mounting dock. Push the metal sleeve into the dashboard until the front edge is level with the face of the dashboard. Fold the metal tabs at the corners of the cage with the flat screwdriver to secure it into the dock.
6. Gather the stereo wiring and antenna cables from inside the stereo dock. Pull the cables to the front of the installation cage. Plug the stereo wiring leads into the wiring harness adapter. See the adapter's manual for correct connection locations.
7. Connect the wiring harness adapter lead connectors to the outlets on the rear panel of the aftermarket stereo deck. The wiring harness leads can only connect to the stereo unit one way. Insert the antenna cable lead into the stereo's antenna input.
8. Push the stereo unit into the installation cage until it locks into place within the Audi's stereo dock. Return to the engine compartment.
9. Replace the negative battery cable clamp onto the A4's negative battery terminal. Tighten the bolt at the end of the clamp with the wrench and close the Audi's hood.

How to Install Spark Plugs in a 1997 BMW 328i

1. Look on the underside of the 328i’s hood and find the emissions label. Find the spark plug gap listed on the emissions label. Check the gap on all six new NGK BKR6EK, or equivalent spark plugs, with a spark plug gap tool. If the gap is not within the specifications listed on the emissions label, exchange the spark plugs for new ones, as they are not adjustable.
2. Unscrew the engine oil cap and pull upward on the passenger’s side of the engine cover -- the one that reads “BMW” -- to remove it, exposing the ignition coils below it.
3. Pull outward on the retaining tabs on a coil pack and pull the wiring harness from the coil pack. Remove the four coil pack-retaining nuts with a ratchet and socket. If the coil pack you are working on has a ground strap attached to its mounting stud, make note of the wire’s position and pull the ground wire off the mounting stud -- only one coil has this wire. Pull the coil upward with a slight twisting motion to remove it.
4. Remove the spark plug with a ratchet, 6-inch extension and spark plug socket. Remove the spark plug from the spark plug socket. Press a new spark plug into the spark plug socket until the rubber insert inside the spark plug socket holds it in place. Hand-thread the spark plug into the engine with a 6-inch extension and a 6-inch socket.
5. Torque the spark plug to between 15 to 22 foot-pounds with a torque wrench, 6-inch extension and spark plug socket.
6. Line up the boot on the bottom of the coil pack with the top of the spark plug. Press the coil pack downward until you feel it click onto the spark plug. Press the coil pack wiring harness into the receptacle on the coil pack until the locking tabs click into place.
7. If the coil pack you are reinstalling had the coil ground wire attached, slide the ground wire onto the coil’s mounting stud. Hand-tighten the four coil pack nuts, then tighten them with a ratchet and socket.
8. Repeat Steps 3 through 7 to replace the remaining five spark plugs.
9. Line up the pins on the underside of the engine cover with the rubber mounts on the top of the engine, and set the cover on top of the engine. Tighten the oil cap to secure the cover in place.

How to Change the Transmission Fluid on a ML430 Benz

1. Park the ML430 on a flat surface and make sure the engine is cool. If the car has been driven recently, wait at least 30 minutes for the heat to dissipate. Raise the car on jack stands to reach the underside of the engine more easily. Slide under the car and locate the transmission drain pan. It is a large, metal tank held with eight bolts beneath the middle of the engine.
2. Place a collection pan beneath the drain pan. Use the 1/2-inch socket wrench to remove all but one bolt on the drain pan. Wait 10 to 15 minutes for the fluid to drain into the collection pan. When it stops spilling from the side, place one hand on the drain pan and remove the final bolt. Lower the pan and pour the remaining fluid into the collection pan. Wash out the drain pan and bolts.
3. Remove the transmission filter under the drain pan with the 3/8-inch socket wrench. Attach the new transmission filter with the same bolts removed from the old one. Reattach the drain pan and lower the car from the jack stands.
4. Pop the engine hood by pulling the hood-release lever underneath the steering panel. Locate the yellow transmission dipstick above the drain pan. Pull it out and place a funnel into the tube. Pour in three quarts of five-speed transmission fluid. Replace the dipstick and close the engine hood.
5. Pour the used transmission fluid into a leak-proof container and take it to a recycling center. Many auto repair and auto parts shops also accept used car fluids.
