How to Troubleshoot the Blower on a 1996 BMW 325is

1. Drive the 325is to your garage or a parking lot. Turn the fan on and feel for any air coming out the vents. If there is no air, then the blower motor needs to be replaced. Put the 325is into 'Park,' then engage the parking brake so there is no danger of gear slippage during the repair. Make sure you have room to maneuver around the front of the BMW for the removal process. Turn the BMW off and open the hood and trunk.
2. Go into the trunk of the BMW and disconnect the negative battery cable from the car's battery. The battery is located in the trunk of the 325is for better weight allocation. Go around to the front of the 325is and prop the hood up with the hood prop stick. The blower motor assembly will be mounted with six screws against the rear firewall. Remove the screws with a Phillips-head screwdriver and pull the blow motor assembly off the firewall.
3. Press the pressure clips on either side of the motor and pull the motor from the blower assembly. If the blower motor has burnt out, then there will be a smell of ozone in the air. If the fan has broken, then some of the blades will be snapped off. In either case the blower needs to be replaced. Disconnect the power wire from the rear of the motor and then connect the power wire to a new blower motor.
4. Slide the blower motor into the blower assembly until you hear the clips click. Then screw the assembly back on the firewall. Tighten all the screws down by hand, as high-torque power drivers could crack the assembly. Close the hood and then go around to the trunk to reconnect the negative battery cable. Close the trunk and then turn the BMW 325is on. Turn the fan up and feel for any air. If there is no air flowing, then the power cord was not plugged in flush. Take the blower motor out and reseat the power cord.

How to Change BMW Transmission Fluid

1. Drive the BMW for at least 10 miles to warm the transmission up to operating temperature. Park the car on a level surface and apply the parking brake. If you want to raise the car on jack stands, do so at all ends so the car remains level.
2. Loosen the drain plug for the transmission fluid pan; a half turn with the wrench will be enough. Place a draining container under the pan and remove the plug, Measure the amount of fluid that drains from the pan, then replace the plug with a new plug gasket.
3. Disconnect the transmission fluid pan by removing its mounting fasteners. Discard its gasket, and clean the mating surfaces and the inside of the pan; brake cleaner will work.
4. Remove the transmission fluid filter; disconnect its mounting fasteners if equipped. Install a new filter with new seals.
5. Install the fluid pan back on the transmission, using a new gasket.
6. Fill the transmission with the fluid specified for your model BMW; the car's manual should state the type needed. Remove the filler/level plug, which is on the transmission above the pan, to fill it with the fluid. Fill it to the amount you measured earlier from the drained fluid.
7. Check the fluid level; the fluid needs to be just seeping over the edge of the hole. Replace the filler plug, start the engine and let it run idle for a few minutes. Check the fluid level again, as it will have heated and expanded.

How to Change the Front Struts on a BMW 330CI

Remove Existing Struts
1. Loosen the lug nuts on your front wheels, but do not remove them.
2. Raise your car, using the floor jack, by positioning it below the jack points that are behind the front wheels, and raising the car. Position one jack stand underneath each jack point, and lower the car, so the front end is supported on the jack stands.
3. Remove the lug nuts, and take off the front wheels.
4. Using the 17-mm socket wrench, loosen, and remove, the anti-roll bar linkage from the struts on each side.
5. Locate the lower shock clamp at the bottom of the strut, and remove the 18-mm nut that secures the clamp to the strut on each side. Place a floor jack underneath the control arms, as you loosen the clamp, while the control arms drop.
6. Grasp the spring on the strut, and move it, back and forth, in a twisting motion to remove it from the strut. Spray anti-seize compound, if the spring begins to get stuck or is difficult to remove. Perform this on both sides of the car.
7. Pop the 330Ci hood, and locate the strut towers that sit on both sides of the engine bay. Pop off the plastic covers, and loosen the 13-mm nuts that sit at the top of the strut towers.
8. Remove the screws on each side, to drop the strut down, and loosen it from place.
Install Replacement Struts
9. Position each new strut into the strut towers, and tighten the nuts at the top of the strut towers to secure the struts.
10. Slide the springs of the new struts to the top of the strut cylinder on each side.
11. Attach the lower strut clamps to the bottom of each strut, using your 18-mm socket wrench.
12. Attach the anti-roll bar linkage to each strut, using your 17-mm socket wrench.
13. Ensure all the nuts and bolts are tightened, and reinstall your front wheels. Screw in the lug nuts, but do not tighten them all the way.
14. Position the floor jack underneath the jack points. Lower each side of the car, and tighten the lug nuts on your wheels.
15. Check that the nuts at the top of the strut towers are tight, and reinstall the plastic covers. Shut your hood, and take the car for a test drive, to complete the installation.

How to Replace the Power Steering Pump on a BMW

1. Remove the lower splash guard by turning its bolts in a counterclockwise direction. There are four bolts holding it in, and removing it will give bottom access to the power steering pump.
2. Drain the fluid from the pump by uncapping it and siphoning the old fluid out with a turkey baster or similar device. Fluid can be collected in a drain pan.
3. Remove the drive belt by turning the tension pulley in a clockwise direction, as it is threaded opposite of most manufacturer's pulleys. Once this pulley has released its tension, the belt can be slid off of the power steering pump, which is on the bottom right of the motor.
4. Unbolt the power steering pump's bolts in a counterclockwise direction.
5. Uncouple the pump's lines by turning the nuts in a counterclockwise direction with a line wrench. Some models will have disconnects on the pump, and the hardware should be saved for reuse unless the new pump has replacements.
6. Remove the pump from the vehicle by pulling it towards the front and away from the car.
7. Replace the pump with the new one, reconnecting its lines and tightening the mounting bolts.
8. Replace the drive belt and tighten the tension pulley by turning its bolt in a counterclockwise direction. The belt should have about an inch of play.
9. Fill the power steering pump with fresh fluid by cranking the car and moving the steering wheel back and forth while pouring fluid into the pump. Do not overfill the pump, as the pressures inside of it are very high.
