How to Identify an Audi Flywheel

1. Open the hood of your Audi and prop it up using the hood support rod.
2. Locate the engine. The engine is on the right side and has an embossed, silver-plated Audi symbol.
3. Locate the transmission. The transmission is on the left and is a large cylinder-like part.
4. Look in between the engine and the transmission, just below the distributor cap at the point where the engine and transmission touch. Hang a piece of rope where the engine and the transmission touch and allow the rope to hang down toward the ground.
5. Slide under the car. Remove the access cover and look for the flywheel gears. These gears have metal teeth and are wedged between the engine and the transmission. Although you can't see the flywheel from under the hood, you can remove the flywheel by pulling the engine and the transmission and then unbolting the flywheel.

How to Change the Rear Brakes on an Audi

1. Park your Audi on a flat, level surface. Place it in gear or ensure it is in "park" if it's an automatic. Loosen the lug nuts that hold the rear wheels on. Raise the rear of the vehicle with a floor jack and lower it securely onto jack stands on either side. Depending on the model of Audi you are working on, the location of the jacking points will vary. Consult your workshop manual for detailed directions. Remove the wheels and set them aside.
2. Spray the brake components and nearby components with brake cleaner and wipe them down with a clean rag so there is no dirt and oil on the brake components. It is important to ensure that the brakes and nearby areas are kept clean during any type of brake work.
3. Remove the two large bolts that hold the brake caliper to the brake caliper bracket. Slide the brake caliper off of the rotor. The pads may stay with the rotor or on the caliper. Either way, remove them and set them aside. Disconnect any brake wear sensor wires from the brake pads. Support the brake caliper with a piece of wire or a on a platform of some sort so that there is no weight on the soft brake line.
4. Remove the bolts that hold the caliper bracket on. Set the bolts and bracket aside. Pull the rotor straight off of the hub. As opposed to some makes, such as BMWs, Audis do not use a set screw to hold the brake rotor in place. It may be necessary to spray some penetrating fluid between the rotor and the hub and then tap the rotor from behind with a rubber mallet to free the rotor.
5. Clean the hub mounting surface and the new rotor. Slide the new rotor onto the hub. Retract the brake caliper piston with the special Audi brake caliper tool (see Resources) to allow enough clearance for the new pads to slide over the new rotor. This is a tool that fits onto the holes in the caliper and turns it while pressing it into the caliper. Before compressing the piston, open the lid for the brake fluid reservoir and remove some of the fluid with a syringe so that it doesn’t spill out of the reservoir.
6. Reinstall the caliper bracket and tighten the bolts. Slide the caliper and new pads over the rotor. Install the bolts that hold the caliper on and tighten them. Repeat the above steps for the other side of the car. Replace the wheels and lower the Audi to the ground. Check the level of the brake fluid and top up if necessary. Pump the brakes until the brake pedal feels firm.

How to Compare BMW Series With Other Luxury Cars

1. Find vehicles in competing classes. Check the lineups of other luxury brands that compete with BMW, such as Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volvo, Lexus, Acura, Jaguar, Infiniti, Lincoln, Cadillac and Buick. The exact models you compare will depend on the BMW model in question. Compile a list of competing vehicles.
2. Check the specifications of the competing vehicles with those of the BMW. The specifications of the vehicles can all be found easily on their manufacturers' websites. Compare the features that you desire. For example, users who value performance will be concerned with horsepower. Other users may value safety and safety features will be of chief importance. Compare the list of features and specifications of the vehicles, paying special attention to those you are most concerned with.
3. Compare the vehicles' prices. Remember a vehicle's cost does not only include the price of the car, but also its fuel economy and the cost of maintenance, warranties and insurance. While one car may have a cheaper sticker price, it may in fact be more expensive in the long run. Compare the long- and short-terms costs of the vehicles.
4. Check expert reviews. Publications like 'Road & Track' and 'Car & Driver' often compare models in certain classes of cars and give reviews on specific models. Websites like Edmunds also have very thorough car reviews. Check out what the experts say and take into account their opinions when making a decision.

How to Change the Rear Brakes on an Audi A6

1. Raise the back of car with a floor jack. Support the car securely with a pair of jack stands. Remove the lug nuts for the rear wheels and remove the wheels. Place the wheels out of the way.
2. Spray brake cleaner on the brake caliper and the rotor. Wipe everything down with a clean, dry rag. Remove the large brake pad spring clips from the outside of the caliper. Use a pair of pliers to pull one end of the clip out and then turn and pull the clip to release the other side.
3. Disconnect the brake wear sensor line. This runs through a small metal bracket. There is small plastic extension on the line that needs to be pulled back to release a pin that holds the sensor line in place. Once the line is removed from the bracket, disconnect the wiring harness, one end of which goes to the brake pad.
4. Remove the plastic caps on the brake caliper mounting bolts by prying them off with a screwdriver. Loosen and remove the caliper mounting bolts with an Allen wrench or the appropriate sized Torx bit. Slide the caliper off of the rotor. Do not let the caliper’s weight hang on the brake line, as this may damage it. Support the caliper with a cardboard box or tie it to the chassis with a zip tie. Remove the bolts that hold the caliper carrier on. Set the carrier aside.
5. Pull the rotor straight off of the hub. Remove the pads from the caliper by sliding it out off the caliper. They should come out easily. The inner pad may be stuck to the rotor. If it is, pry it off with a screwdriver without making contact with the rotor. Slide the new rotor onto the hub. Reinstall the caliper carrier.
6. Open the lid for the brake fluid reservoir in the engine bay and remove about a ½-inch of brake fluid so that the fluid does not overflow when the piston in the caliper is compressed. For the rear brakes on the Audi A6, the piston in the caliper must be compressed to make room for the new, thicker pads with a special caliper tool. (See resource 1.) Place dowels on the tool in the holes in the piston and then turn the tool, which should turn and compress the piston into the caliper.
7. Install the new brakes pads into the caliper. Slide the caliper onto the rotor. Install and tighten the caliper bolts. Plug the brake wear sensor cable on the pad into the sensor line. Reinstall the line in the bracket, ensuring that the pin snaps into place and that the line is secure. Reinstall the brake pad clips with a pair of pliers. Repeat for the other side.
8. Fill the brake fluid reservoir with fresh brake fluid to the full mark. Pump the brakes until the pedal feels firm again. Replace the wheels and lower the car to the ground.
