How to Jump Start a Mercedes

1. Find the battery. It's usually under the hood, but in some Mercedes it's in the trunk or under the seat.
2. Place the red clip on the positive terminal of the battery. The positive has a plus symbol.
3. Place the black clip on the negative terminal of the battery. The negative has a minus symbol.
4. Place the other end of the cables on the corresponding terminals of the battery of the running vehicle.
5. Attempt to start the Mercedes. The other vehicle should be running. If the Mercedes does not start right away, let the other vehicle run for several minutes with the jumper cables attached. This may charge the battery enough to start the Mercedes.
6. Remove the jumper cables if the Mercedes starts. Allow the car to run for 10 to 15 minutes to charge the battery. Turn off the engine and let the car sit for another 15 minutes.
7. Try to start the car. If it doesn't start, the battery is dead and needs to be replaced.

How to Change the Brake Pads in a Mercedes E300 DT

1. Loosen the lug nuts on each of the front wheels with the lug nut wrench. Do not remove them completely.
2. Place the jack under the front end of your Mercedes under the center part of the frame. Jack the end of the car up enough so you can get the jack stands under each side behind the tires. Lower the car onto the stands carefully. This will ensure your car won't fall if the jack fails.
3. Remove the lug nuts of one wheel and pull the tire off the axle. Unscrew the bolt holding the caliper to the brake pads. Gently set down the caliper to avoid damaging the brake line.
4. Put on the gloves and mask to avoid exposure to the brake pad dust. Remove the two old brake pads from the rotor. Apply the C-clamp to the brake piston to retract it. This will reset the brake system since you are installing new pads.
5. Clip the new brake pads in place with the caliper. Remove the C-clamp from the piston. Tighten the caliper bolts to keep the new brake pads in place.
6. Slide the wheel back onto the axle and replace the lug nuts. Repeat the same process on the other side. Then raise the car to remove the jack stands and release the jack to lower the car back to the ground. Fully tighten the lug nuts with the lug nut wrench.
7. Loosen the lug nuts on the rear tires of your Mercedes. Place the jack under the center of the rear end under its frame and jack it up. Place the jack stands behind the wheels and lower the car onto the stands. Repeat the steps to replace the rear brake pads.

How to Create a BMW iPod Playlist

1. Open your iTunes program on your computer to access your music.
2. Click on “New Playlist” from the “File” menu. This option allows you to create a playlist that you can synchronize onto your iPod.
3. Name the playlist--this is required when you create the playlist. For the BMW iPod audio unit to recognize the playlist, you must use a specific name. You should name the playlist “BMW#XXX”--replacing the # with a number between 1 and 5, and replacing the X’s with any letters you like; e.g., BMW4POD.
4. Drag songs from your iTunes library into the new playlist. This simply means clicking on a title, holding it down and dragging it into the playlist title on the left side of the screen.
5. Connect your iPod to your computer and allow the iPod to synchronize with iTunes, which will transfer the new BMW playlist to your iPod.
6. Connect the iPod to your BMW audio system. It will scan the iPod for compatible playlists and allocate BMW playlists to a button on the audio system--for example, Preset 1, “BMW1POD”; Preset 2, “BMW2POD.”

How to Change the Rear Shocks on a Mercedes S320

Repacing the Rear Shocks on a Mercedes S320
1. Park the S320 on a level surface. Place a wheel chock in front of, and behind, the front wheels.
2. Place the jack under one side of the rear of the S320, and lift it until the wheel is off the ground at least three inches. Place a jack stand under the S320 near the jack and carefully lower the car onto the stand. Do this on both sides. The wheels should be just touching the ground.
3. Open the trunk. Pull the carpet liner off the far inside corners, revealing the shock absorber's top bolts.
4. Remove the bolts, typically 14 mm, with a proper-sized wrench.
5. Slide under one side of the car near the rear wheel. With both the correct sized wrench and socket, remove the shock absorber's bottom bolts. These bolts and nuts are usually either 19 or 21 mm in size. Set these bolts aside. Repeat for the other side.
6. Grasp the bottom half of the shock absorber and push up, freeing the absorber from the bracket pocket. Pull down on the shock absorber, removing the upper rod from the mounting hole. Repeat for the other side.
7. Preassemble the new shock absorbers prior to installation. Place the large metal washer over the rod, cupped side facing up, and follow it with a rubber bushing. Do this for both shocks. Put the extra two washers, bushings and nuts into the trunk.
8. Slide the shock absorbers under the S320, one by each wheel, and slide under the vehicle.
9. Insert the shock absorber rod into the mounting hole and push upward on the bottom portion of the shock, placing the bottom mount of the shock into the mounting pocket.
10. Insert the large bottom bolt into the bottom mounting hole, and install the nut by turning clockwise. Tighten to approximately 40 to 50 foot-pounds.
11. Repeat steps 10 and 11 on the other side.
12. Place the jack under the rear axle member and slowly lift the axle until the shock absorber upper rods are completely through the mounting holes into the trunk.
13. Place the rubber bushings over the shock rods from inside the trunk. Place the metal washers over the rods against the bushings, cupped side facing down.
14. Install the mounting nuts onto the shock rods by turning clockwise. Tighten to between 30 and 40 foot-pounds. If there are two pairs of nuts, install the second nut onto each shock rod. Use the wrench on the bottom nut and socket on the top nut to lock in place.
15. Lift the car with the jack high enough to pull the jack stands out. Lower the vehicle. Remove the jack and wheel blocks.

How to Change a Fuel Pump on a BMW E30

1. Prepare the vehicle for fuel system maintenance by removing the fuel pump fuse from the main fuse panel located in the engine compartment. The exact location of the fuse for each model varies and can be found within the owner's manual. Start the engine and wait for the engine to stall. Remove the key from the ignition and unscrew the fuel cap on the passenger's side of the vehicle. Now that the fuel system pressure has been relieved, disconnect the negative terminal of the battery using a 10 mm socket and place the battery cable aside.
2. Access the fuel pump cover in sedans and coupes by removing the rear seat's lower cushion, which is retained by two Phillips head screws that thread into the rear passenger's footwell. Wagon fuel pump covers can be accessed by lifting up and removing the luggage area carpeting.
3. Remove the fuel pump access cover by lifting upwards after unscrewing the five Phillips head screws around the edge of the plate. Disconnect both electrical connectors made visible by removing the access cover. Both connectors are separated by pressing a small plastic tang on one side of the connector while simultaneously pulling the connector ends apart.
4. Disconnect the fuel inlet and return lines from the pump housing, first by sliding the retaining clamps further down each hose using a pair of standard pliers. Clean up any spills and wrap each hose end with a clean rag to prevent the entry of foreign debris. Determine if the pump housing is secured to the tank with or without nuts. If nuts are present, loosen and remove all eight nuts with a 10 mm socket. Rotate the housing counterclockwise and lift up assemblies that incorporate no nuts. Pry open stubborn stuck assemblies with two flat head screwdrivers between the pump housing and fuel tank at the locking tangs.
5. Separate the fuel pump from the pump and level sender housing once it has been removed from the tank. Remove the two fuel pump electrical leads using a Phillips head screwdriver. Remove the fuel pump pressure hose by releasing the clamp with a pair of pliers. The pump can now be replaced and reassembled using the reverse of these instructions. Replace the gasket between the fuel pump housing and fuel pump if there are any signs of damage or if the gasket appears to be dried out. Inspect all fuel lines for damage and cracking, and replace as necessary.
