How to Use Castrol 5W 50 in a Mercedes Benz E 320

1. Determine the temperatures at which you'll be operating the Mercedes E-320. You can use any viscosity oil between freezing point (32 degrees) and 86 degrees or higher. If you plan to use the vehicle at temperatures below 23 degrees, do not use SAE 20W-40 or SAE 20W-50 oil.
2. Use SAE 15W-40 or SAE 15W-50 at temperatures down to 5 degrees, but not lower. Use oil with a SAE 10W rating down to about -4 degrees. Use the Castrol 5W-50 down to -13 degrees. You can also use SAE 5W-40 and SAE 5W-30 at that temperature.
3. Don't use Castrol SAE 5W-50 if you will be operating the Mercedes E-320 below -13 degrees. Use an oil with a SAE 0W classification, like SAE 0W-30 or SAE 0W-40.

Mercedes Drive Belt Installation

1. Locate the pulley routing diagram printed on the underside of the engine hood. If the diagram is missing, it is important that you make your own diagram. The drive belt must route properly around each pulley to ensure the accessory runs properly.
2. Locate the tensioner pulley on the lower half of the engine, close to the crankshaft pulley located in the center of the engine. The pulley has a square hole in the center of it.
3. Place the three-eighths-inch ratchet drive into the square hole, and lift up on the handle. This releases tension on the drive belt. Slip the drive belt off the tensioner pulley.
4. Remove the drive belt from the other pulleys, and then route the new belt onto all the pulleys except the tensioner pulley. Use the diagram to help you.
5. Lift up on the ratchet handle, and slide the drive belt over the pulley. Let go of the handle, and remove it from the tensioner pulley to create tension on the belt.

How to Install Audi Instrument Rings

1. Lower the steering wheel -- using your Audi's tilt and telescopic steering mechanism -- and pull it as close to you as possible to reveal two plastic tabs on the right and left sides of the steering wheel base.
2. Remove the plastic clips with your fingers, then loosen and remove the hex bolts that will be revealed underneath the clips.
3. Gently pull the gauge cluster towards you to pull it out of place.
4. Disconnect the wiring harnesses that are connected to the gauge cluster to remove it entirely.
5. Loosen and remove the two screws that hold the rear plastic housing of the instrument cluster to its clear plastic front side.
6. Pry open the plastic clips at the top of the instrument cluster so that you can pull the plastic lens off of the instrument cluster housing.
7. Insert the rings into the instrument cluster, then use the toothpick to apply a light amount of superglue to the small gap between the rings and the plastic instrument cluster housing.
8. Allow the glue to dry and cure for several hours before reassembling the instrument cluster and installing it back into your Audi.

How to Restore a Mercedes Benz Automobile

1. Check the condition of the paint on your Mercedes. Look for the presence of rust, weld marks, misaligned body panels, cracks in the paint, fading, and bubbles in the paint's clear coat. If there is rust, cracking, fading, weld marks, or any combination of the four on any of the body panels, you will likely need to repaint the entire car. While you can repaint specific body panels instead of the whole car, you will run into some slight paint mismatching as other panels on the car will still have the factory paint, which may look faded in contrast to the shiny new paint that would be applied to specific body panels.
2. Replace any worn and defective interior parts of the Mercedes by obtaining new parts from a restoration parts dealer or junk yard. If there is chrome trim which has lost its shine, you can purchase chrome polish which can bring the luster back to the chrome trim. Many Mercedes Benz models, especially early models, feature genuine wood trim, which can crack over time. It is possible to remove the trim and refinish using a wood refinisher, or it can be restored by sending it to a speciality shop that focuses on wood trim restoration. Consider the condition of the upholstery and restore it as needed. You can bring your Mercedes to an automotive upholsterer, perform the work yourself, or replace the worn interior parts with newer ones that you have sourced.
3. Inspect the wheels of the car and determine their condition. If they have lost some of their shine, have a peeling finish, or are showing surface rust, you will likely need to get the wheels reconditioned. You can recondition some wheels on your own by using a material known as wheel putty, which can fill in scrapes. Allow it to dry, then sand it down before repainting and refinishing the wheel. You can also bring the wheels to a specialty repair shop that refinishes old wheels.
4. Check the condition of the engine. If it starts up smoothly and runs without issue, you can steam clean the engine bay to make it look as if it were new. Perform a fluid change on the car, replacing fluids such as engine oil, transmission fluid, and brake fluid. A fluid change can dramatically smooth the operation of older automotive components. If necessary, replace the engine parts and transmission parts to fully restore the car if it is not running smoothly at the time that you begin the restoration.
5. Check the windows and window seals for potential leaks. You can perform a quick leak test of your own by rolling up all of the windows and sunroof, then spraying the car down with water. After turning off the water, check the interior for any presence of water near any of the windows and sealing points. If you have leaks, then you should replace the worn rubber window seals with new window seals, which will help keep your restored interior safe from the elements.

How to Add XM to a Radio in a BMW

1. Upgrade your Sirius subscription to include the 'Best of XM,' featuring XM Public Radio, Oprah Radio, College Sports, MLB Home Plate, PGA Tour Network, NBA, NHL Home Ice, The Virus and The Indycar Series channels.
2. Download the iPhone and iPod Touch Sirius/XM App and apply for 'Premium Online Service.' The application will allow you to stream programming from Sirius/XM on your iPhone or iPod Touch. When you have proper Internet access, you can connect to vehicles equipped with an auxiliary input or iPhone/iPod adapter.
3. Purchase an XM radio and vehicle mounting kit. XM offers two different radios dedicated for in-vehicle use and several multilocation units that can also be used in a vehicle. Depending on the stereo setup of your BMW, these radios can be hardwired, connected through an auxiliary audio jack, broadcast across an FM transmitter or integrated with a cassette adapter.

How to Troubleshoot a BMW Sound System

1. Check the fuses in your BMW in case one of the stereo components stopped working due to a blown out use. Your fuse box, depending on your BMW model, can be found in the trunk, glove compartment or the hood. Use the diagram in the manual and also under the case of the fuse box which tells you which fuse and number is associated with the stereo system components.
2. Check your speakers to determine if there is loose wiring that can cause a cracking, popping or lack of sound. BMWs have speakers located on the doors, back seats, back windshield and dash. You may need to unscrew certain components like the door enclosure in order to access the speakers. Look for loose wires or faulty wires. You may need to replace the speaker or solder the loose wire back onto the speaker.
3. Clean CD changers or stereo components using electronic cleaners, like compressed air. Spray the compressed air between the shift knobs and in between the slots of your CD changer. Older BMWs have knobs that can become loose and can cause erratic volume issues. Cleaning the stereo components can fix this.
4. Check for error codes that may be displayed on the BMW stereo system. Also, if you're required to input a security code, the battery could have died or was removed temporarily, as well as other electronic components affecting the stereo system. Check with your BMW dealer to obtain the security code, which may allow the stereo to start functioning again.
5. Check any previous work that was done to the stereo system. Some BMW models may experience issues after installing auxiliary or iPod connectors, which may cause issues with the stereo system.
