How to Add More Horsepower to a BMW 325IS

1. Install a cold air intake to help increase the flow of new and fresh air into the engine and its intake manifold. From the factory, your 325is has a plastic air box which houses the air filter. You can purchase and install an aftermarket intake system that has an open, cone-shaped air filter to place below the engine and behind the driver's side front bumper. This design offers a less-restrictive, more free-flowing intake that can put additional fresh air into the engine faster than the factory's air box.
2. Replace the factory exhaust system with an aftermarket cat-back exhaust system to further increase your 325is's horsepower. The exhaust system has three primary components: the exhaust headers, the mid-pipe or catalytic converter, and the exhaust and muffler at the end. While you can perform a complete replacement of all the components, a cheaper, just as effective option is to install an aftermarket system that replaces the piping and muffler from the catalytic converter and back. These aftermarket systems help push combusted air out of your engine more effectively and can also add a deep exhaust tone.
3. Maximize the horsepower by matching an aftermarket engine control unit, or ECU, to the intake and exhaust upgrades. The engine control unit constantly adjusts the engine's parameters as you drive your car. It pulls in information from the engine's sensory system to determine factors such as the necessary air-to-fuel ration. By adding an intake or exhaust to your car, you are slightly modifying the engine's factory air-to-fuel ratios, which cause the factory ECU to make constant adjustments. By installing an aftermarket ECU, you essentially upload a custom fuel program to your engine, maximizing the benefits of the other aftermarket upgrades you've added.

How to Change the Front Brake Pads on a #039;82 Mercedes Benz 300

New 'shoes' for your Mercedes
1. With wooden blocks, bricks or cinder blocks, chock the rear wheels of your Mercedes 300 to keep it from rolling backward.
2. Use the lug nut wrench to loosen the front wheel lug nuts on both front wheels, but do not remove the lug nuts completely.
3. Use the floor jack to lift the front end of the vehicle and lower the vehicle frame securely onto the jack stands. Remove the wheel lug nuts and remove the wheels.
4. Remove the cap from the master cylinder located on the brake assister manifold mounted on the driver's side of the firewall.
5. Locate the bolts that secure the brake caliper onto the spindle. The bolts are located on the back of the caliper. Due to the vehicle's age, the bolts might be rust-welded. Spray the bolts with a penetrating oil like WD-40 or Liquid Wrench and let the bolts sit for one hour. This reduces the possibility of breaking a bolt. After one hour, remove the bolts that secure the caliper with a socket and ratchet.
6. Pull the caliper off the brake rotor and pull front brake pad out of the caliper. Do not remove the back brake pad at this time.
7. Place a pair of pliers over the rear brake pad and over the back side of the caliper. Squeeze the brake pad into the caliper with the pliers. This pushes the brake caliper piston back into the caliper and provides sufficient room to install the new pads. Discard the back brake pad.
8. Place the new brake pads into the brake caliper. Slide the caliper over the rotor while you hold the pads in place.
9. Thread the bolts into the brake caliper and tighten them with the socket and ratchet.
10. Repeat the process on the passenger side.
11. Place the wheels onto the Mercedes and tighten the lug nuts by hand. Use the floor jack to lift the Mercedes off the jack stands and remove the jack stands. Lower the vehicle to the ground.
12. Place the cap on the Mercedes' master cylinder and press on the brake pedal to seat the new pads.

How to Troubleshoot a Mercedes Window Switch

1. Press the correct button if the window you want to open won't open and another one opens instead. On the driver's door set of switches the top-left switch operates the left front door window, the top-right switch operates the right front door window, the bottom-left switch operates the left rear door window and the bottom-right switch operates the right rear door window. The switch on each other door opens the window on that door.
2. Release the override switch if the rear windows won't open. The override switch is designed for safety to stop children from operating the windows. The switch is located on the driver's door (or console), and newer models include an indicator lamp that will illuminate when it's activated.
3. Press the lower part of the switch past the resistance point if express opening won't work. During express opening, the window opens without you having to keep the switch pressed down. Pressing the upper part past the resistance triggers express closing.

How to Install Spark Plugs in a Mercedes Benz

1. Open the hood. Your Mercedes Benz may have an engine cover. If so, remove it. Begin by locating and removing the coil packs, which usually cover the spark plugs. Use the appropriate ratchet set by checking the vehicle manual if needed, then gently loosen the coil pack. Pull up on the coil pack and turn slightly until it comes completely free from the engine. Disconnect any wires or wire harness if necessary. Notice the spark plug directly underneath.
2. Loosen the old spark plug using the same ratchet. Use tool extensions and/or spark plug sockets if needed. Grab the spark plug with a free hand and gently pull until it is free from the engine. If the plugs have not been changed for some time, rust or fusion may have occurred, so be cautious of this and do not pull too hard. You want to avoid damage and not leave behind any pieces of the old plug.
3. Take the new spark plug and gap it using the gapping tool set after checking the automobile manual for exact gap settings. Now, install the newly gapped spark plug into the open spot from where the old plug was removed. Use the ratchet and extensions needed to firmly tighten the new spark plug securely into place. Replace the coil pack and any wiring that was removed.
4. Repeat these three steps until all spark plugs are replaced. Replace the coil packs and any disconnected wires. Reconnect the battery then start your car to make sure the plugs have been installed correctly.
