How to Put Oil in a BMW 2005 X5

Checking the Oil Level
1. Drive the X5 for at least six continuous miles to bring the engine to operating temperature. Park the vehicle in a horizontal position and turn off the engine.
2. Allow the X5 to sit for five minutes.
3. Open the hood. Pull the dipstick out and wipe it with a lint-free cloth or paper towel.
4. Place the dipstick all the way back in the dipstick tube. Remove it again. The oil level should be in between the two marks on the dipstick. This equals approximately 1.1 U.S. quarts. If engine oil level has dropped just above the lower mark on the dipstick, proceed to Section 2. If it has not, do not add oil.
Filling with Oil
5. Remove the oil cap inside the X5 engine compartment.
6. Insert a clean funnel into the oil-reservoir opening and pour the approved BMW synthetic oil inside.
7. Replace the oil cap and allow the oil to drain.
8. Remove the oil dipstick and wipe it with a clean lint-free cloth or paper towel. Re-insert the dipstick into the dipstick tube to check the oil level. Add more oil if needed. Do not fill above the upper mark on the oil dipstick.

How to Test a BMW Diode Board

1. Use an adjustable wrench to remove the motorcycle's negative battery cable.
2. Access the diode board and remove the electrical connectors running from the stator and alternator. Also use a screwdriver to remove the screw holding the diode board in place.
3. Set the diode board on a work bench.
4. Turn on the multimeter and turn it to the diode test function.
5. Place the positive lead of the meter to the anode lead of the first diode and the negative meter lead to the cathode lead. The cathode lead of the diode is the side marked with a single band on the body. Examine the reading, which is the voltage across the diode. Reverse the meter leads on the diode connection. If it registers any voltage across the diode the diode is bad. Check all the diodes on the diode board in this fashion. If three or more of the diodes are bad, swap out the diode board with a new one.

How to Troubleshoot a BMW 2000 540I That Won#039;t Start

How to Diagnose a Non-Starting BMW 540
1. Turn the key. Look for the dashboard lights to either come on or flicker and for the engine to chug, which indicates that it is turning over but not igniting.
2. Turn the BMW off and hit the hood release button. Prop the hood up with the hood prop stick on the side of the engine bay. Look at the battery in the upper left of the engine bay and check for foam on the top or side. This foam indicates that the battery is leaking acid and should be replaced. Battery acid can burn your skin, so use extreme caution or hire a mechanic to do the work. If there is no foam, then a stout thump of your shoe on the electrical posts may reconnect the electrical clamps if they have become undone.
3. Turn the 540 on again, looking for the dashboard light to react and for the engine to chug or come on. If there is chugging but still not combustion then the battery may be dead. Remove the battery by undoing the 'O' ring clamps on the posts with a flathead and then undoing the retaining hardware by hand Slide the battery out and then slide a new battery in. Reattach the electrical clamps and the retaining hardware, being careful not to over tighten.
4. Turn the 540 on again and check for the lights and the chugging. If the lights did come on but the engine still will not start running then the engine is flooded. To clear a flooded engine you will need to dry off the fuel-covered spark plugs with the Clear Flood mode. Push the accelerator all the way down and repeatedly turn the ignition on. Do this for three or four minutes and then release the accelerator and take the keys out.
5. Try to turn the 540 on again and if the car still will not start then a mechanic is needed to fix the car as the Bosch electronics may have gone bad or the V-8 may have a mechanical issue.

How to Measure the Voltage of an O2 Sensor on an Audi

1. Open the hood of your Audi to locate the oxygen sensors. Two will be before and after the catalytic converter, best accessed from the underside of the vehicle. The other will be on the exhaust manifold. The oxygen sensor looks like a small cylinder with one wire coming out of it. For the exact locations of the sensors, consult your owner's manual.
2. Connect the positive (red) terminal of the multimeter to the wire coming from the oxygen sensor.
3. Attach the negative (black) terminal of the multimeter to a clean portion of your car's chassis.
4. Set the multimeter to measure direct current voltage and enable the bar graph.
5. Turn on your vehicle but do not crank the engine. The multimeter should register a voltage.
6. Read the multimeter's bar graph. A well-functioning oxygen sensor will read about 0.45-volt.

How to Improve Gas Mileage on a 1.8 T

1. Drive highways when possible and avoid stop and go city traffic. Stopping suddenly and taking off quickly can decrease gas mileage by up to 5%, according to the Federal Trade Commission. For instance, the A4 gets 28 miles per gallon when driven smoothly, and 21 miles per gallon or less in the city.
2. Drive at the speed limit. Driving faster than 60 miles per hour will decrease fuel efficiency. It's tempting to drive faster in the 1.8T as the turbo boost engine can reach zero to 60 seconds in 8.3 seconds.
3. Maintain your car. Regular oil changes and tune-ups are critical. Use the proper fuel types and keep your tires properly inflated. Consult your owner's manual for guidelines.
4. Remove extra weight from your car. Excess weight can affect fuel efficiency. According to the Federal Trade Commission, an extra 100 pounds in the car can decrease fuel economy by up to 2%.

How to Become a BMW Parts Distributor

1. Select a BMW parts manufacturer to work with. BMW uses about 170 suppliers throughout the United States, Mexico and Canada. A list of suppliers can be found at the BMW U.S. factory website. Download the list and choose a supplier or suppliers based on the parts you wish you distribute. If you want to distribute a variety of BMW parts, you will likely have to work with multiple suppliers. For example, FIAMM Technologies, Inc., can provide you with a horn, but for a fuel tank, try Inergy Automotive Systems LLC.
2. Obtain office supplies. Purchase computers, phones, a fax machine, Internet access and shipping supplies. Some parts are small enough to be drop shipped to the client. This means you order the part from the manufacturer and they send it directly to the client.
3. Rent or purchase storage space. Allow yourself some room to grow as your business expands.
4. Obtain transportation. Your truck or van should be capable of transporting multiple BMW parts. Some may be large. Budget for vehicle insurance and fuel.
5. Promote your distributorship. Distribute business cards, fliers and run ads in newspapers and on websites. Take your promotional materials to BMW dealerships, auto body repair shops and other locations that may sell BMW parts or need them for repairing or building cars and motorcycles.
