How to Turbocharge the BMW 3 Series

1. Place your BMW 3 Series on a lift or elevate it on four jack stands. This will allow you to access the underside of the car where the turbocharger will need to be installed.
2. Install the turbocharger after the exhaust headers and follow the installation instructions for the specific turbocharger unit that you've purchased.
3. Route the boost lines from your turbocharger kit from the turbo to the components such as the blow-off valve, which release excess turbo pressure between uses.
4. Complete the installation of the turbo by installing an aftermarket engine control unit or having a custom tune done by a tuning shop.
5. Replace the factory exhaust with a larger exhaust system that will allow combusted to exit the engine faster and will accommodate the additional horsepower produced by the turbocharger.

How to Troubleshoot a BMW That Is Burning Oil

1. Find the onboard diagnostic port in your BMW's interior. Inspect the top of your foot well on the driver's side and look for the rectangular female plug that is about two inches wide. It should be marked 'OBD' nearby or on its plastic cover, which may or may not be present depending on the model of your BMW.
2. Connect the OBD II code reader to the diagnostic port and turn your BMW on. If you can, allow the engine to idle; however, if the engine won't start, or if you are afraid to start it due to low oil pressure, you can simply turn on the electronics by twisting the ignition to the second 'Accessories' position.
3. Turn on the OBD II code reader and allow it to scan for error codes. Keep your eye on the display of the code reader and write down any error codes that appear on the display.
4. Contact your local mechanic or BMW service center to cross-reference the list of error codes and find out what specific components of your BMW's engine are at fault and causing the oil to burn.

How to Repair a Mercedes Benz E Class 320

1. Locate the starter by tracing the positive battery cable, which splits and travels to the alternator and starter motor. You will know that the starter needs replacing if your battery is still working, but you only hear a 'whirring' and a click whenever you turn your ignition key. Disconnect the negative battery cable and unhook the electrical connection leading to the starter. Use a socket wrench to remove the two mounting bolts for the starter and unscrew the brass nut securing the positive battery cable feed. Insert a new starter into the Mercedes E Class 320.
2. Replace the brake pads on your E Class 320 by lifting the car with a floor jack and supporting it with jack stands. Remove the tires. Unbolt the caliper and unscrew the brake pad retaining bolt. Replace the brake pad and secure it by tightening the retaining bolt. Use a C-clamp to push the caliper piston back into place and reinstall the brake pad assembly. If the rotor is showing discoloration, bumps or grooves, remove the rotor and have it resurfaced at an auto parts store. Reinstall the rotor. Reattach the caliper to the rotor.
3. Fix oil leaks in your Mercedes Benz E Class 320. Check the oil level by wiping the dipstick clean and reinserting it into the dipstick tube. Pull the dipstick out again and locate the oil level indication using the 'max' and 'min' lines printed on the lower end of the dipstick. Pour in an oil additive as a thickening agent or use a heavier weight oil to help stop leaks. Replace the valve cover gasket by unbolting it from the lower valve cover. Pull out the old gasket and replace it with a new one. Use silicone to help create a tight seal between the upper and lower valve cover. Reinstall the top valve cover.

How to Reset the Check Engine Light on a 1990 300E

1. Open the plastic battery cover to expose the battery. Identify the negative terminal, which is marked with a minus symbol, and remove the attached cable using a crescent wrench.
2. Wait at least 15 minutes, then reverse the steps to reinstall the cable. Confirm that the nut is tight enough to hold the cable in place and ensure a strong electrical connection.
3. Start the engine and allow the Mercedes to idle for 5 minutes before driving. This gives the computer system time to recalibrate and ensures the engine will run smoothly when driven. Keep an eye on the dash to see if the light returns. If it does, then further repairs are in order to solve the underlying problem.

How to Hook Up a Turbo Timer

1. Unhook the negative terminal of the car's battery before you begin installation. This is done by loosening the clamp on the black terminal of the battery, then lifting off the cable. This ensures user safety, as well as does away with the risk of electrical malfunction during installation.
2. Remove the plastic covers over the steering column and center console of your vehicle. This will vary depending on make and model. Often the covers are held on by plastic clips and/or Phillips-head screws. Search along the underside for all fasteners. Once removed, the plastic covers should lift free, exposing the vehicle's wiring harnesses.
3. Disconnect your vehicle's ignition harness. This is the wiring harness leading into the ignition's key slot. The ignition harness has male and female connection ports. Separate these by hand, and hook your turbo timer's wiring harness between the connections. The turbo timer's harness has a male and female end so that it will plug directly into the vehicle's stock harness.
4. Ground the turbo timer unit. This is done by running the turbo timer's ground wire to a grounding source. An easy choice is any secure connection to the car's chassis, easily reachable from the steering area of the dash. Wrap the exposed end of the ground wire around a screw or other secure connection to the chassis, and tuck all excess wiring into the dash. Secure with zip ties.
5. Run the turbo timer's parking brake wire through the dash, to the center console area. Splice it into your vehicle's parking brake switch. Do so by stripping roughly 5mm of the parking switch's insolation, then wrapping the bare end of the turbo timer's parking brake wire around the exposed parking switch. Crimp the spliced wires with the wire crimps supplied in the turbo timer kit. If for some reason your turbo timer kit didn't come with crimps, simply pinch the splice tight by hand then wrap with electrical tape.
6. Mount your turbo timer in desired location, and hook into the ignition harness. Tuck all excess wires into dash and center console, then secure with zip ties. Replace steering column/center console covers. Replace negative battery terminal. Start your vehicle and ensure that turbo timer unit turns on and has full functionality.
