How to Change the Oil on a Mercedes C240


1. Drive the car up onto the car ramps. Apply the parking brake.
2. Open the hood. Locate the oil filter on the driver's side of the engine compartment, and unscrew it by hand. Dispose of the oil filter and its gaskets at an oil collection facility, such as an auto parts store. Lay a rag over the hole where the oil filter was to prevent debris from getting into the system.
3. Remove the 12 8mm bolts from the under-car cover using the socket wrench. The under-car cover is the plastic guard that covers the entire bottom of the car to protect the moving parts from dirt, water and grime.
4. Place an oil collection pan under the oil drain plug, which is a 13mm bolt near the center of the underside of the car that faces the rear of the vehicle. Remove the oil drain plug with the socket wrench to allow oil to drain out. Let the oil drain for 10 to 15 minutes.
5. Assemble the new oil filter with its gaskets by following the directions that came with the filter. Add a few drops of new oil to make it easier to work the gaskets onto the filter.
6. Replace the oil drain bolt once the oil has drained. Tighten the bolt by hand. Wipe off the bolt and the underside of the car. Tighten the bolt with the torque wrench to 20 foot-pounds.
7. Remove the rag covering the hole on the top of the engine. Pour in 8 1/2 quarts of oil. Screw the new oil filter on securely by hand.

How to Replace a Headlight on an Audi TT


1. Turn off your Audi TT and prop open the hood.
2. Locate the wiring harness on the headlight you wish to remove. Loosen the two side screws on the wiring harness, but do not remove them completely. Doing so may result in their getting lost in the labyrinth of the engine compartment. Pull off the wiring harness once the screws are loose.
3. Twist the locking ring counterclockwise and pull it off the headlight assembly.
4. Press in the side tabs on the socket and pull the headlight bulb out. Insert a new headlight bulb, without touching the glass with your fingers or a dirty glove, and twist back in the locking ring. Plug in the wiring harness and tighten the side screws.

How to Change the Engine Timing Belt on a BMW M40


1. Purchase a timing belt specifically for BMW M40 engines from an auto parts store or online. Lift up the hood and disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the following to reach the upper timing belt cover: distributor cap and rotor, inner distributor cover and seal, distributor guard plate attaching bolts and nut, rubber guard and guard plate. Refer to the vehicle owner's manual or service guide to correctly identify these parts.
2. Locate the crankshaft and turn it to set the No. 1 piston to Top Dead Center (TDC) of the compression stroke.
3. Locate and remove the radiator, lower splash guard, alternator, power steering and air conditioning belts, crankshaft pulley and vibration damper. Use a wrench to keep the crankshaft hub in place to remove the crankshaft hub bolt. Remove the wrench and the crankshaft hub.
4. Locate the alternator bracket and loosen the adjusting bolt that holds it in place. Move the bracket to the side. Remove the TDC transmitter and the lower timing belt cover. Loosen the tensioner pulley bolts and push the tensioner pulley bracket to the side. Use a piece of chalk and draw an arrow to mark the running direction of the timing belt before removing it from your vehicle.
5. Align the timing mark on the crankshaft sprocket so it points at the notch on the front engine cover. Locate the camshaft sprocket mark and make sure it points to the mark on the cylinder head. Install the new timing belt. Tighten the belt by turning the crankshaft bolt located on the engine using a wrench. Move the tensioner pulley bracket back to its original position and tighten the tensioner pulley bolts.
6. Reattach the lower timing belt cover and TDC transmitter. Move the alternator bracket back to its original position and tighten the alternator adjusting bolt. Reattach the crankshaft hub and the crankshaft hub bolt. Reattach the crankshaft pulley and vibration damper, power steering and air conditioning belts, alternator, lower splash guard and radiator.
7. Reattach the upper timing belt cover. Reattach the rubber guard and guard plate, distributor guard plate and nut, inner distributor cover and seal, distributor cap and rotor. Reconnect the negative battery cable. Start the engine to make sure the timing belt is installed properly.

How to Wash an Audi Car


1. Fill both buckets with clean water.
2. Park your Audi in a shaded area before beginning to wash, or wash it in the morning or evening when temperatures are cooler.
3. Begin with the tires. Use the large brush, a water hose and sprayer. Switch to the smaller brush to get behind the calipers. Use the lambs wool mitt to reach the backs of the spokes. Check the entire wheel and wash it to remove all of the dirt and grime.
4. Begin at the top of the Audi and spray the car from top to bottom to remove dirt and get the car wet.
5. Pick up the sponge, the shampoo and one of the buckets. Begin washing the Audi at the top of the car. Wash in a back and forth movement, not a circular pattern. Always wash in motions that will move along your car as the wind would when you are driving. Circular motions cause swirls.
6. Squeeze the sponge out after every section as you work your sponge around the car, continuing to work from the top to the bottom. Rinse the sponge in the second bucket of water.
7. Remove any tar or bug residue with the Pinnacle Safe Scrub Bug & Tar Pad, as recommended by Direct Audi Parts online. It won't scratch your finish or use hard chemicals.
8. Remove the water hose nozzle and rinse the car in a continuous flow of water after you have washed the entire Audi.

How to Replace Aerotwin Wipers


1. Lift the wiper arm up to its highest position. Make sure the wiper switch control is turned off.
2. Grasp the Aerotwin quick-connect adapter, and then pull it up to open it.
3. Push the wiper blade forward, toward the quick-connect opening. Lift it up and pull it out of the adapter.
4. Insert the replacement wiper blade about an inch past the quick-connect adapter, and then lower it into the adapter. Pull it towards you to attach it.
5. Close the quick-connector adapter cover to secure the wiper blade. Lower the blade to its original position.

How to Replace a Windshield Wiper in a 2000 Audi A4


1. Raise the wiper arm on your A4 to an upright position. Place a soft cloth on the windshield to protect the glass in case the wiper arm falls.
2. Locate the release tab on the wiper arm. The Audi A4 release tab is located on the pivot point where the wiper arm and wiper blade assembly meet. Press and hold the release tab.
3. Slide the blade down toward the hood of the car while holding the release tab. Pull the blade away from the wiper arm.
4. Insert the new blade assembly onto the pivot point. Slide it up until the retaining clip locks it into place.
5. Lower the wiper arm into place. Repeat the process on the opposite side if necessary. Test the operation of the new wipers.

How do I Replace a 2002 Audi 4.2 Thermostat?


1. Remove the upper radiator hose from the thermostat housing. To find the housing, follow the hose from the radiator to where it connects to the engine. The hose connects to the housing. To remove the hose, squeeze the compression tabs on the hose clamp together with a pair of pliers and then pull the hose off the housing. Drain the fluid out of the hose, back into the radiator by holding the hose vertical.
2. Remove the bolts that secure the housing to the intake manifold. Use a 12mm socket with extension bar to reach the bolt heads. There are two bolts in total.
3. Lift the thermostat housing off the engine. The timing belt makes it a very tight fit but removing the thermostat housing without removing the timing belt is possible.
4. Lift the old thermostat gasket off the engine. Inspect the engine and the bottom of the thermostat housing. If any old gasket material exists, wipe it off. Ensure the surfaces are clean.
5. Pull the old thermostat out of the engine. Replace it with a new one. The end with the spring sits inside of the engine while the end with the pin (jiggle valve) sits inside of the thermostat housing.
6. Place a new gasket onto the engine and bolt the thermostat housing back into place.
7. Slide the radiator hose onto the thermostat housing and clamp it into place with the band clamp.

DIY: Rear Brakes on an Audi S4


1. Park the S4 on a level, flat surface. Use a tire iron to loosen the lug nuts that hold the rear wheels on. Lift the back of the car with a jack and lower it onto jack stands placed under the car at the proper places.
2. Finish removing the lug nuts and the wheels. Set the wheels out of the way. Remove the brake caliper spring clip on the outside of the caliper with a pair of pliers. Loosen and remove the caliper bolts located at the top and bottom of the brake caliper facing the wheel well.
3. Slide the caliper off the brake rotor. Support the brake rotor by tying it to a nearby suspension piece, so there is no weight on the soft brake line.
4. Remove the brake pads from the caliper and the caliper carrier. Disconnect the line for the brake wear sensor. Remove the bolts that hold the brake caliper carrier to the car. Set the carrier aside. Remove the brake rotor set screw, located in the face of the rotor. Pull the rotor straight off the hub.
5. Clean the area where the rotor mounts to the hub. Slide the new rotor onto the hub. Now is a good time to upgrade to cross-drilled rotors, which provide superior cooling. Install the rotor set screw. Bolt the caliper carrier back on.
6. Open the lid to the brake fluid reservoir located in the engine bay. Using a syringe, remove about ½-inch of the brake fluid. Place the Audi brake caliper tool over the piston in the caliper. The tool has metal dowels that fit into holes on the piston. Turn the tool so that it retracts and turns the piston into the caliper to make room for the new, thicker brake pads.
7. Install the new brake pads. Slide the caliper back over the new rotor. Install and tighten the caliper bolts. Connect the brake wear sensor, ensuring it is routed correctly. Reinstall the brake caliper clips. Repeat for the other side. Place the wheels back on the car and lower it. Fill the brake fluid reservoir with fresh brake fluid. Pump the brakes until the brake pedal feels firm again.
